THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6, 1996 Blyth PeeWees move on after Seaforth defeat The Blyth PeeWee Houseleague downed Seaforth two games - 0 to advance in the first round of playoffs. Game one was held in Blyth. The final score was 8-4. Goal scorers for Blyth were Joey Sykes, Mau Anderson, Derek Cook, Jeremy The Brussels Novice team won two games against Belmore last week to eliminate them from playoff competition. On Tuesday, they won by a lopsided 7-1 score. Brandon Blake and Scott Armstrong each had a pair of goals in the winning effort. Atoms lose The Belgrave Atoms lost a tough 2-1 playoff game against Stephen Twp. last Saturday. Chad Cook scored for Blyth in the second frame, to put them in the lead. Stephen tied the game at 11:06 of the third, and took the winning goal at 4:41 of the overtime period. Manager Gord Folkard said the contest was even and fast-paced from beginning to end, and could have gone either way. Van Amserfoort, Michael Bernard and Joel Arthur. Assisting goals were Graham Worsell, Van Amersfoort, Cook, Adam Anderson, Matt Anderson, Sykes, Aaron Bakker and Arthur. Blyth travelled to Seaforth for Additional goals were scored by Brent Wheeler, Nick Campbell and Kyle Procter. Assists were awarded. to Armstrong and Kelly White. Trainer Murray Armstrong commended goaltender Patrick Rushton for his strong perform- ance, and said both teams put out a good effort. On Friday, the strong offense continued, this time handing their opponents an 8-5 defeat. Blake led Continued on page 13 Cook tallies 2 The Blyth Tykes lost a tough 6-3 game to Elma-Logan last Saturday afternoon. Darcey Cook scored a pair of goals for Blyth, with Josh Albrechtas adding another. Coach Rick Elliott said the team displayed good teamwork through- out the game, and he singled out winger Heather Schmidt for her standout effort. game two, chalking up their second win with a score of 4-1. Goal scorers were Worsell, Cook and Bernard. The defense team of Jeremy Hanna, Worsell, Matt Anderson and Arthur kept shots on goals to a minimum. Great goaltending by Ryan Lee and Jeff Klassen saved Blyth numerous times. Blyth now advances towards the finals in the 1996 playoffs. Home games are Thursday evenings at 6:45 p.m. Novices top Belmore Out of reach The Elma-Logan goalie tries to get his gloves on the puck, lying just out of reach, but too close for comfort, with a Blyth Tyke moving in.
