At a meeting held on January 30th, a very enthusiastic group of
people continued to make plans for the Township's 140th
anniversary celebration on June 28th, 29th and 30th, 1996. A
meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 13th at 8:00 p.m. at
the Ethel Community Centre to finalize the program and
committees. Volunteers are needed for the various committees -
your involvement would be appreciated.

The regular monthly meeting of
the Belgrave Community Club was
held on Feb. 2 with 25 members
present. President Bob Grasby
presided.
The meeting opened with the
singing of 0 Canada. The minutes
of the previous meeting were read
and adopted.
The members of the Community
Club were invited to attend the
potluck supper and family skating
at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10 at
the Belgrave Arena.
Correspondence was read from
the Community Centre Board, the
Blyth Festival, the Belgrave Girl
Guides inviting the members of the
Belgrave Community Club to a
Valentine's Tea and program on
Mabel's Moms met at their
regular time on Wednesday, Jan.
31.
Those attending were: Annette

Donna Raynard; Corey and Ryan
Swanson; Jeanette McArthur and
Daniel; Connie Shiell and
Christopher; Sherri Sippel, Christi

The next shoot party will be
Friday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. in the
Belgrave Community Centre. It
will begin with dessert, followed by
shoot. Everyone is welcome.
There were nine tables of euchre
in play on Wednesday, Jan. 31 in
the Women's Institute Hall.
Prizes went to: high lady, Audrey
Edgar; second high lady, Mary
Taylor; lone hands, Alice Nichol-
son; low lady, Irene Smyth; high
man, Agnes Gaunt (playing as a
man); second high man, Garner
Recently Mr. and Mrs. Lorne
Jamieson of Wingham visited with
their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
Stonehouse.
A family potluck supper
followed by free family skating
will be held Saturday, Fcb. 10, 5:30
p.m. at the Belgrave Arena. The
Belgrave Community Centre Board
and local businesses are sponsoring
the event. Bring the whole family
and keep the community spirit
alive.
Belgrave, Blyth, Brussels School
A happy occasion was celebrated
on Saturday evening, Feb. 3 in the
Memorial Hall, Tavistock, where
approximately 100 guests, which
included his immediate family and
close friends gathered to extend
congratulations to Calvin Nixon on
his birthday.
Other February celebrants were
his wife, Sandra, and her mother,
Thursday, Feb. 15 at the Belgrave
Community Centre from 7 p.m. to
8:30 p.m.
A donation of $500 is going to
the Community Centre Board.
A discussion was held about a
proposed community library in the
Women's Institute Hall using
donated books. A committee of
Barbara Anderson, Louise Bosman,
Jack Taylor and Bob Grasby was
named to set up the project.
Bus trips were discussed. More
information will be available at the
next regular meeting March 1 at
1 p.m.
The meeting adjourned and the
remaining afternoon was spent
playing cards and shuffleboard.

Congratulations to Margaret Fear
on winning the television in the
Belgrave Co-op draw.
Beth Procter's daughter Sandra
Mayberry and granddaughter,
Marilyn of Londesboro visited with
her last Saturday and took her out
for supper. Marilyn is home now
after spending a year in Australia
working at different jobs.

The evening was spent in
reminiscing, card games, and the
usual birthday festivities. Calvin
extinguished the 40 lighted candles
on the prettily decorated cake, then
expressed his thanks to all present
for a lovtly party.
A smorgasbord lunch brought the
evening to a close.

C. Nixon marks birthday
Members of Knox United
Church, Belgrave were welcomed
by Mike, Donelda, and Matthew
Cottrill as they arrived for morning
worship.
Mrs. Jean Bennett of Bayfield
was guest preacher for this service.
She was assisted by Muriel
Coultes.
Following the singing of two
favourite hymns, Muriel welcomed
all then gave the call to worship,
prayer of approach and prayer of
confession. The choir sang the
anthem Jesus Calls Us.
Mrs. Bennett started her
children's story by reading portions
of Matthew 25 where Jesus was
thanking the people for helping the
hungry, sick, naked and
imprisoned. She explained to the
children that when they gave food
to someone who was hungry, or
visited someone who was sick, they
were also doing this for Jesus.
She continued her theme for the
sermon, "The Canadian Food
Correction
In last week's issue the UCW
theme was actually "A New Year".
Tanya Verburg of Auburn is the
guest speaker at Belgrave UCW
general meeting March 28.
The annual meeting of the UCW
is Feb. 12 in Clinton.

to Hunger", after reading from
Micah 6.
Mrs. Bennett had accompanied
11 others on a study tour to Africa
and shared some of those
experiences with the congregation.
She saw the Canadian wheat, corn
and oil all being received by those
in great need. She thanked the
congregation for being there
through donations to the Mission
and Service Fund. She explained
how a $50,000 donation from the
United Church is matched four to
one.
The offering was received by
John Nixon, Ken Procter, Peter
'Irwin and David Piluke. During the
announcements the men were
reminded of the men's breakfast on
Saturday, Feb. 10 at 8 a.m. in the
church basement. The theme is
"People of the North - Inuit".
The sympathy of the congrega-
tion was expressed to Brian and
Rita Potter and family for the
passing of Rita's father Tjaart
Ritsema on Friday, Feb. 2 in
Wingham.
Mrs. Bennett led in the prayers of
the people which was followed by
the singing of The Lord's Prayer
and the closing hymn.
Mrs. Coultes closed the service
with prayer and the singing of "Go
Now in Peace".
Mrs. Bennett is one in a series of
guest speakers for the Belgrave
Calvin-Brick pastoral charge as
Rev. Mary Jane Hobden is on
maternity leave. Next week's guest
minister is Marilyn Robertson from
near Teeswater.
