Brownies wrap gifts
The Sparks and Brownies held
their Christmas party at the
Community Centre on Thursday,
Dec. 14. The girls enjoyed playing
games and singing Christmas
carols. Gifts were wrapped up for
all the people that had helped out in
Brownies and Sparks.
At the conclusion of the evening
Mabel's Moms met on Wednes-
day in her home at the regular time.
Linda Galbraith and Susan
Borrman, guest speakers, told about
"Home Schooling".
Others who attended were Donna
Raynard, Trevor and Heidi;
Candace Chaffe, Cameron, Bran-
don and Austin; Andrea Stevenson,
Mathew and Tyler; Linda Hess and
Andrew; Rev. Mary Jane Hobden;
Lila Procter and Ben; Sherri Sippel;
Christie, Scott and Daniel; Claren
Yuill; Julie Van Camp, Jeanine and
Jordan; Sandra and Beka
Borrmann.
There were seven tables of
euchre in play at the WI Hall on
Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Winners were: high lady, Lois
Chamney; second high lady, Marj
Coultes; most lone hands, Lillian
Appleby; low lady, Edythe Coultes;
high man, Oscar Schefter; second
high man, Ruth Johnston, playing
as a man; lone hands, George
Cater; low man, Lloyd Appleby.
The next euchre will be
Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m.
Everyone is welcome.
Bible Society
receives $1,235
The Belgrave Unit of the
Canadian Bible Society acknow-
ledges all the canvassers for their
help in this year's canvass. The
community generously supported
the effort. A sum of $1,235 was
realized.
the girls had a snack and each was
given a treat to take hone.
The Brownies, Sparks and Girl
Guides as well as the Youth Group,
will be carolling through the village
on Thursday, Dec. 21 from 6:30 -
7:30 p.m. They will end up at the
arena for hot chocolate and
cookies.
Service of Baptism was held
Sunday, Dec. 19 at Knox Presby-
terian Church, Belgrave.
Rev. Cathrine Campbell baptized
Alexandra Louise, infant daughter
of Dr. Ray and Cindy Nicholson of
Elmira.
Visitors at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Garner Nicholson were Mr.
and Mrs. Wilson Thornton of
Bluevale, Dr. Ray and Cindy
Nicholson, Victoria and Alexandra
of Elmira.
Beth Procter spent a few days
visiting last week at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Stopforth and
Alexandria in Oakville.
WI meets
Women's Institute president Mrs.
Dorothy Coultes welcomed WI
members and their guests to the
annual Christmas social which was
held on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at the WI
Hall.
Following the blessing, everyone
present enjoyed a delicious turkey
dinner which was prepared and
served by the United Church
Women. The ladies were thanked
by Alice Nicholson, then Sheila
Nixon suitably responded.
Mrs. Coultes led in a sing-song
of Christmas Carols for which
Mary Coultes provided the
accompaniment on the piano. The
Rev. John Roberts was invited to
sing a special request solo entitled
"Trees", which he dedicated to Sara
Anderson. He was accompanied at
the piano by'his wife, Kay.
A number of door prizes were
then given to lucky recipients by
Wilma Higgins. A most interesting
slide presentation followed, with
Joan Pederson giving an account of
holidays she had enjoyed in Hawaii
and Australia. She was thanked by
Wilma who presented her with a
small token of appreciation.
The president thanked everyone
for coming out on such a cold
evening. She also gave a reminder
of the potluck luncheons, which
would begin in the New Year. The
first will be held on Jan. 16 at
12:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome to
attend. The program will be a slide
presentation by Ross Procter, who
will speak on his trip to South
Africa.
