Seerses cater for Silver Tops
Vera Penfound welcomed the
club to her home on Nov. 27 at
2 p.m. President Ethel Ball opened
the meeting with a reading "An Old
Fashioned Christmas" and a
"Christmas Prayer". She followed
with a very amusing ''Aging Is
When".
The secretary read the minutes of
the October meeting and various
letters and receipts received. The
roll call was answered with
numerous gifts to the Christmas
Bureau from the eight members
present.
A former neighbour and friend,
Wilfred Collison, has been a
hospital patient and has just been
moved to a nursing home in
Clinton. The club donated a
homerriade quilt to him and wished
him a speedy recovery.
Plans were made for quilting
another quilt in the New Year. It
was decided to donate this one to
the Cancer Society.
A get well card was signed for
Beth Lansing who is recovering
from surgery. Christmas cards were
signed for a number of former
members and friends. Christmas
baskets will also be prepared for
John Raithby and Wilfred Collison.
A Christmas gift of $25 each is to
be given to three worthwhile
organizations - Home Care,
Community Nursing Service and
Town and Country Homemakers.
Ila Cunningham invited members
to her home for the January
quilting. Kay Lapp will be in
charge of the program and Pat
Honking is lunch convenor.
Pat then gave a reading "My
Christmas Wish" and displayed an
angel card Christmas book. She had
one made from old cards and it was
lovely. She closed with "Something
about Christmas".
An auction took place with Betsy
Verwey as the auctioneer. Proceeds
were $19.70.
Hostess Christena Gross served
beverage and Christmas goodies
and a social time was enjoyed.
The Christmas meeting of
L.ondesboro UCW was held at the
.thurch on Monday evening, Dec. 4.
It began at 6:30 p.m. with a pot
luck dinner.
A musical number was given by
Katie Snell and Kerri Elliott. Mary
Peel and Betty Archambault held a
contest on Christmas carols. Joan
Whyte had a story.
Rev. Paul Ross was presented
with a gift.
The worship service was
conducted by Helen Dale, Marsha
Szusz and June Fothergill. Guest
speaker was Muriel Coultes of
Belgrave. She showed slides and
spoke of her trip to Korea. She was

The winners of the Auburn
euchre party, held at the
Community Hall were: high lady,
Grace Cartwright; low lady, Lillian
Appleby; high man, Hazel Watkins
(playing as a man); low man, Lloyd
Appleby; novelty prize, Frances
Radford was thanked for her two
years as president. The new
President for 1996 is Cheryl
Trewartha.

The Silver Tops held their
Christmas dinner at the Community
Hall, Wednesday, Dec. 6. Maxine
Seers and daughter, Carol, catered.
There were 33 present.
Rev. Paul Ross said grace and all
partook of the food prepared. Ell
Lapp thanked Maxine and Carol for
the dinner and Maxine replied.
The singing of the Christmas
carols was led by Paul Ross and
Marjorie McDougall was pianist.

Euchre is played every Tuesday
evening at 8 p.m.
Ernie Dumin played mouth organ
selections.
Rev. Paul Ross brought the
Christmas message and also
thanked them for inviting him.
Dorothy Grange gave a reading.
Ethel Ball and Tena Empey were
the program convenors. They had
place favours, pens and calendars
for each one.
The contests were: the closest
birthday to Christmas, Marion
Haggitt; the most guests for
Christmas, Martha Daer. Dorothy
Grange thanked Tena and Ethel and
euchre was played to end the
afternoon.
Several members of the Auburn
UCW attended the Christmas
meeting of the Londesboro UCW.
A delicious supper was enjoyed at
6:30 p.m.
Mrs. Muriel Coultes was the
guest speaker. She showed slides of

slides and talk were most inspiring.

Magician Norman Barlow of Clinton delighted the
youngsters at the annual Auburn Lions children's
Christmas party last Friday night. Justin Dobie appears a
little reluctant to discover what might be hiding in this bag.
He was pleasantly surprised to find some chocolate
candy.
