Legion welcomes new members For the first time since the Vil- lage of Blyth hired an animal con- trol officer three years ago, the program has ended with a surplus. Council was told at the Dec. 4 meeting that expenditures this year Blyth People Jennifer Pierce of London will be celebrating her 12th birthday on Dec. 16. Five tables of lost heir were in play at the Hall on Wednesday to Sept. 30 were $1,705.46, while money brought in to Oct. 31 was $2,500. Animal Control Officer Bob Trick told councillors that 96 dog tags were sold in the village in evening. Winners were: high lady, Nora Kelly; high gent, Jim Walsh; low lady, Diane Raynard; low gent, Janet Lawrie (playing as a man). Lost heir playing will resume on Jan. 10. Everyone is welcome. Results of the Dec. 4. Blyth euchre are: high lady, Effie McCall; high man, Margaret Nesbit (playing as a man); ladies' lone hands, Alberta Stevens; men's lone hands, Edgar Howatt; low lady, Ferne Howatt; men's low, Jane Glousher (playing as a man). There will be no more cards until Jan. 8. Five new members, Danielle McDougall, Tim Airdrie, Angela Cotton, Darren and Michelle Richmond were inducted at the December meeting of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 420. Membership Chairman Bill Vincent presided over the ceremony. Donations made during the past month included Huron County Christmas Bureau, $500; Canadian Diabetes Association, $50; Londes- boro Lions (Hall Renovation Project), $500; Blyth Brownies (Camping Fees and Equipment), $525; Hullett Central Public School (Swimming Lessons), $1,200; Blyth Minor Sports (Monthly Draws), $100; Ted Foster Christmas Tree Fund, $50; Blyth Skate-a-Thon, $200; and Blyth Minor Sports (Hockey Sweaters), $500. Blyth Pee Wee Team were Champs at the Zone C-1 Hockey Tournament held in Blyth, Dec. 2. Blyth advances to Durham on Jan. 6. Coming events in the work of the Legion include preparing fruit baskets for Legion veterans and veterans' widows, Dec. 9. 1995.
