Helping hands Londesboro 4-H member Krista Black gets some help with her quilting from a pro, Helen Lee, who, along with several other local women are helping the club learn the centuries old, and practical, art form. Cheerios meet The November meeting of the Cheerio Club was held on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Members had lunch at the Hillcrest Restaurant, then proceeded to the home of June Fothergill, who welcomed everyone then read "In a November Garden" and "Something Told the Wild Geese". Roll call was done with nine members answering. Minutes of the October meeting were read and the treasurer's report was given. Collection and draw money were taken up. Margaret had a reading on taxes and a contest, which was won by Laura Lyon. The draw, donated by Margaret, was won by Vietta Hoggart. The Christmas meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 11. Everyone will meet at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Audrey Thompson then proceeded at 4 p.m. to the Hillcrest Restaurant for the dinner. There will be a $5 gift exchange. A group of young people learning how to make their own log cabin pillows through 4-11. Thelma Dougherty and Sherry Postma are the leaders of this group. They make sure everything is going well and that the members know their stuff. Andrea Postma is the president and secretary. Pam Jewitt is the vice-president. During the five meetings the members of the group learn how to quilt and make their own pillow. On Nov. 27 they will have their achievement program. There they will put on a demonstration about quilting fabrics and its history. It's being held at the agriculture office, Clinton at 7:30 p.m. The Londes- boro quilters group were a great help to the members attending two of the meetings. B. Elliott seeks council funds Bev Elliott attended the Nov. 6 meeting of Blyth council to ask for funds for the new Blyth brochure. She distributed a copy of the last brochure and a sample of the front page for this year's. A printing of 12,000 copies, to be distributed across the province, has been planned by the Business Associa- tion. Elliott said that in the past, coun- cil had covered the cost of the front page, which would be approximate- ly $400. A motion was passed to donate $400 to the project. *to* A committee has been formed to investigate materials for the second phase of the decorative lighting project in the village. At issue is whether to use alu- minum poles, as those in the down- town core, or cement. The estimated cost for cement is $33,459.40, plus taxes, while alu- minum is $39,980.36. Two-thirds of the cost is covered by infrastruc- ture funding.
