Bayfield nips Blyth Novices

takes gold at OFSAA
A Western Ontario Athletic
Association gold medal in cross-
country had Gerth advancing to the
OFSAA cross-country meet held in
London last week. The WOSSA
cross-country championship was
held at the Springwater
Conservation area near Aylmer.
Over 600 of the best runners in
Western Ontario took part in this
event.
Gerth battled the entire 5,000
At the OFSAA meet, Gerth
finished 15th out of 60 of the
province's best runners.

Brussels battles for tie
After going down three to 1
Brussels fought back by controlling
most of the play in a game against
Stephen Township last week.
Mathew White led the way with
all three goals and Chase Chapman
made some excellent saves in net.
Brussels players Chris Corbett,
Christopher Jutzi, Adam Corbett,
Cory Chapman, Kyle Gibson, and
Adam McClure showed great
offence with many chances to
score. Outstanding defence from
Nathan Prior, Justin Thompson,
Tom Cronin, Mitchell Blake and
Andrew McDonald held off
Stephen Township right to the end.
The game was fast and rough
with Brussels outplaying their
opponents, but settling for a 3 - 3
tie.
Bayfield blasts Blyth
The Blyth Atoms suffered a
disappointing 6-1 loss to Bayfield
this past week. Coach Tom Jarrett
said the boys were simply
overmatched by their opponents
who had a couple of exceptional
players.
Cole Stewart scored Blyth's only
goal. Shaun Henry got an assist on
the goal
The boys play their next home
game against Milverton at 7 p.m.
this Wednesday evening (tonight).
Brussels Bantams lose
The Brussels Bantams dropped
an 8-2 decision to Stephen Twp.
last Wednesday night at the B.M.
& G. Arena.
Cory Bragg set up Jeremy Clark
and Sam Zahnd for the Brussels
goals while Jeff Finkbeiner enjoyed
a five point game for Stephen.

Stephen scored three unanswered
goals early in the second to
increase a 2-1 first period lead, then
sealed the win with three more in
the game's last four minutes.
The Bantams are at home tonight
against Elma-Logan, then travel to
Blyth, Monday.
Blyth Novices got their season
off to a solid start with a narrow
loss in Bayfield.
Blyth got on the board in the first
with a goal by Tyler Kernihan, but
Bayfield tied it in the second.
The host team then took a two
goal spread in the third, until

league team was on the receiving
end of a 6-3 loss to Seaforth last
week.

In a game which started out
quietly, the Brussels Atoms came
to life in the final frame of their
home game against Zurich on Nov.
4 to earn a 6-1 victory.
Their opponents struck first, at
the 13:20 point in the second
period.
Just over a minute later, Brussels
evened the tally when Tyler
Campbell, assisted by Sean Hoegy
and Devin Blake, pushed one over
the line.
Brussels exploded for five in the
third, the first three coming in rapid
succession. Joel Hemingway,
Hoegy and Campbell had unassis-
ted goals before eight minutes had
ticked off the clock.
Campbell earned the hat trick
four minutes later, with Blake
assisting, who then scored the final
netter of the game.
The Canadian Cancer Society
recommends that women over age
40 to BSE each month at the same
time, even after menopause.

Coach Jeff Peters commended
his team for a good effort. He also
own in the first, and added two
more in the second.
Brussels did not score again until
11:39 of the third when Oldfield,
assisted by Carla Hunt, put the
puck in the net. Oldfield added
another at 5:34, assisted by Todd,
creditted goaltender Justin Peters
whose strong play helped keep the
game close.
One player scored all four goals
for Bayfield, Peters said, so the
defense was crucial in the game.
The Novices will play their sea-
son home opener this Thursday at
5:45.
but it wasn't enough, and Seaforth
went home with the victory.
Coach Steve Coulter said the
team played well, but were met by
a hot Seaforth goaltender.
Their next home game will be on
Nov. 11, against Stephen Twp. at
12:30 p.m.
