Marg Caldwell
Blyth
woman
turns 80
On Oct. 7 over 100 friends and
family celebrated the 80th birthday
of Margaret Caldwell with an Open
House held at Blyth United
Church.
Margaret was born in Londesboro
on Oct. 7, 1915 to William and
Margaret Govier. She lived in
Westfield and Blyth area all her life.
In 1934 she married Earl
Caldwell. They farmed for many
years north of Blyth, then moved to
Blyth. After 51 years of marriage
Earl passed away.
Marg had three children Gerald
Govier, John William (Jack) and
Faye Victoria. Gerald lives in Blyth
and never married. Faye died in
childhood. Jack has five children,
Lorna (Randy) Fraser, Nelson
(Donna) Caldwell, Gail (Ron)
Ulch, Trent Caldwell and Jackie
Caldwell. Marg has eight great-
grandchildren.
Margaret worked in a local
grocery store for many years. She
and Earl raised four of their
grandchildren. When Marg and
Earl retired she expanded her
flower gardens. Visitors travel
many miles every year to see her
beautiful yard.
A few years ago she was named
Citizen of the Year.
The family planned the Oct. 7
Open House with the UCW serving
cake and ice cream to all guests.
Balloons, shrubs and flowers
adorned the church basement for
the garden party atmosphere,
displayed by Treebelt and Luann's
Country Flowers.
Following the Open House the
family and close friends enjoyed a
delicious dinner at the Blyth Inn.
Grace was led by Kathy Fraser with
Johnathan Caldwell and Katrina
Ulch.
The great-grandchildren Cassandra
and Katrina Ulch, Johnathan, Jared
and James Caldwell, Joe and Kathy
Fraser sang Happy Birthday to
Grandma Great.
It was a great day for all.
