Squirt Girls clinch ball title The Brussels Tigers were officially honoured as the Huron County Fastball League's best Saturday night when they were presented with the 1995 Championship Trophy at the year- end banquet held in Seaforth. The Tigers, who finished the regular schedule in first place, captured the league title with playoff series wins over the Brussels Bulldogs, Monkton and the Lieury Red Sox. In the final game of the season, the Brussels Squirt Girls ball team took on the Teeswater squad on Sept. 29, to battle for the WOAA championship. Brussels broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the second when two runs crossed the plate. The opponents fought back with one in the third before the home- As well the Bulldogs, who rebounded from their opening round loss to defeat Walton and Francistown, were presented with the "B" Championship Trophy. Individual team MVP plaques were also presented. Local winners included Steve Fritz (Tigers), John Miners (Bulldogs), Brad Knight (Walton), Mike Bromley (Blyth), Brad Robinson (Belgrave) and Jeff Smith (Monkton). town players blasted two homeruns in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-2 lead. The round trippers were smacked by Courtney Sallows and Amy Douma. Not giving in, Teeswater rallied for two more in the fifth, but were unable to overcome the four run deficit. The championship was the first for the Tigers in their five years of Huron County Fastball. Always a strong regular schedule team, the Tigers have struggled in previous playoff years winning only four of 12 playoff games. This season they lost the opening game, then won six of the next seven played for the title. Offensively the Tigers were led by Doug Shaw who batted .750 in the 1995 playoffs. Brussels capped off the game with one more run in the final frame. Lesley Pepper pitch a great five innings, striking out 13. Prior to defeating Teeswater in three games, Brussels had put Bel- more out in three and were victori- ous over New Hamburg in a series which went the five-game distance. Four-time World Champion Kurt Browning and two-time Olympic Bronze Medalists Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler will lead the way as Canada's best professional skaters take on a field of international stars in the 1995 Toyota Canadian Professional Figure Skating Championship. Scheduled for Dec. 1 and 2 at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, the second annual Toyota Canadian Professional Figure Skating Championship will offer $440,00.0 in prize money and feature Men's, Ladies' and Pairs competition. The event has attracted an international field that includes some of the sport's most accomplished skaters. In the men's "competition, Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton will return to defend his title as the 1994 Toyota Canadian Pro Champion. Scott will take on a tough field including four-time World Championship Kurt Browning, Olympic Silver Medalist Paul/Wylie, U.S. Silver Medalist Mark Mitchell and 1989 World Professional Champion Gary Beacom.
