knows.

regret,
We who loved you will never
forget.

IN
MEMORIAM
VINCENT. In loving memory of
our dear grandson Michael who
passed away August 8, 1989.
Once again the month of August is
here,
To us the saddest of the year.
The blow was hard, the shock
severe,
To part with one we loved so much.
We did not see you close your eyes
Or hear your last faint sigh.
But then too late to say goodbye.
What we would give to hold your
hand,
Your happy face to see,
To hear your voice and see your
smile
That meant so much to us.
Sometimes it's hard to understand
Why sad things have to be.
Because it hurts as much today, as
it did six years ago.
— Lovingly remembered and deeply
missed by Grandpa and Grandma
MacFarlane. 31-lp

Lions' club
exchange
Continued from page 13
Just a few of the activities includ-
ed camping at The Pinery for four
days, viewing the Bruce Nuclear
plant, touring Royal Homes, attend-
ing the Blyth Festival for a perfor-
mance of Ballad for a Rum
Runner's Daughter, canoeing, golf-
ing and target shooting, but one of
her favourite stops was Grand
Bend.
Asked why, Katheryne and Karla
both just smile and say, "Nice
jeans."
Another experience which will
not be soon forgotten by any of the
exchange students in Huron County
or their host families is the tremen-
dous storm which swept through
the area a few weeks ago.
"We do not have thunderstorms
like that in Ireland," says Kath-
eryne.
Though this is not her first visit
to North America, (she travelled to
Connecticut last year), Katheryne
says the Lions Exchange Program
should not be missed. "It is a great
opportunity and I would tell (young
people) to definitely go for it."
Having been to this continent
twice, Katheryne says she would
like to return in the winter to do
some skiing.
She is also very active back
home as she is the captain of the
field hockey team, rides horses,
creates artwork and participates in
all sports.
For her, becoming involved in
the exchange program was more
difficult than for some. She earned
a community service award through
her school, then won at the finals
which were sponsored by the Lur-
gan Lions Club.
Katheryne will be returning to
school in the fall to study to
become a teacher as well as follow
up her interest in art.
Her family runs a dairy operation
which has been in the family for
several generations as well as oper-
ating four restaurants.
"It is an older farm," says Kath-
eryne. "We have 100 acres with
100 cows. Here, things are more
computerized."
The entire family works in the
many businesses, including sisters
Gail, 21, Francis, 19, and Philip 16.
For the Doughertys, this was
their first year as a host family and
Thelma says it was a great experi-
ence.
