Conservation areas perfect spots for nature lovers

The Wawanosh Nature Centre, located south-west of Belgrave, hosts an annual fall colour tour as one of its many
events. The Centre is also an educational facility visited by thousands of school children each year, as well as being a
favourite camping site for members of the Scouting and Guiding movement. Trained staff educate the young visitors
on conservation and the environment. Visitors are also welcome to come and enjoy a quiet walk on their own through
the resplendent property.
Out on a limb
The many conservation areas and provincial forests found in Huron are the
perfect places to get back to nature. Take a walk, or have a seat to listen
at what's mod about life.
While Huron County has a wide variety
of entertainment to offer, there is no doubt
that it is definitely an area for the nature
lover.
There are places for hiking, camping,
boating and fishing.
Situated in the village of Brussels is the
Brussels Conservation Area. Adjacent to the
Maitland River the park like setting is an
excellent picnic area, suitable as well for
swimming, fishing and canoeing.
The Bannockburn Conservation Area is
located just east of Varna on Conc. 19. The
highlight of this park is its boardwalk.
At the south edge of Clinton, next to the
Bayfield River on Hwy 4 is the Clinton
Conservation Area. It has a picnic area,
playground, hiking trails and is suitable for
swimming and fishing.
For a nice picnic or for some fishing,
Colborne Park is another good choice. It can
be found on County Road 31 east of
Saltford.
Elliott Park is on the west side of Hwy 4
in Exeter.beside the Ausable River. This
park offers overnight camping facilities and
a picnic area.
An idea) spot for canoeing is hidden
away in the tiny hamlet of Ethel, located
about six miles north-east of Brussels on
County Road. 19.
The Falls Reserve Conservation Area is a
popular getaway for family camping. Set on
the scenic Maitland it is just minutes from
Goderich. In addition to having lots to offer,
such as fishing, swimming or hiking, the
Falls also hosts special events.
The Gorrie Conservation Area is well
known for its swimming and picnic area.
Located right in the village, it is also a great
spot for hiking and canoeing.
There is swimming in Hensall Park while
the Robertson Tract and the Saratoga
Swamp have some excellent hiking and
nature trails. The Tract can be found by
going east on County Road 25 from Carlow.
Take the third sideroad, turn right and
proceed to the end. The Swamp is just
northeast of Nile on Sharp's Creek.
The park in Seaforth is located at the east
end on Hwy 8. It has a picnic area, fishing,
and facilites for fishing and canoeing.
Naftel's Creek Conservation Area is 10
kilometres south of Goderich on Hwy 21. It
has a picnic area, fishing and hiking trails.
The Pioneer Conservation Area is located
on the Maitland River in Bluevale. It is a
great spot for swimming, fishing and
canoeing. There is also a picnic area.
Sharp's Creek Reserve is situated north of
historic Benmiller off County Road 1. It's a
perfect stop for a picnic.
The Sunshine Conservation Area is also a
quiet stop for a picnic or some fishing. It is
located west of Brussels off County Road
16. .
The Turnbeny Floodplain in Wingham is
a popular spot for anglers and canoeists. It

includes paintings, prints and drawings.

which runs from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on

are camping spots available. It is also
suitable for fishing and swimming.
The Wawanosh Valley Conservation
Area is across the river from the the
Wawanosh Park Conservation Area. There
are hiking trails, fishing, swimming, and a
picnic area there.

The Hullett Wildlife Area is located two
miles east of Clinton off Hwy 8 or Hwy 4. In
addition to offering the best of nature, it is a
good spot for canoeing and fishing.
Fishing and camping are available at the
Lake Wawanosh Conservation Area east of
St. Helens, while the Maple Keys Sugar
Bush offers excellent hiking trails. The bush
is located north of Ethel on County Road 19.
The Lucknow Waterworks is located
right in the village by the river. It is a
favourite of anglers.
A nice place for a picnic is located on the
east side of Hwy 4 in Exeter. MacNaughton
Park is situated next to the Ausable River.
The Morris Hill Forest is an excellent
opportunity to get away from it all for a
while. It can be found north of Brussels on
County Road 16.
Morrison Dam Park is located northeast
of Exeter off Hwy 83. It has a picnic area
