Brussels Livestock report
Top steers, heifers sell higher
Sales at Brussels Livestock for
the week ending May 26 were: fed
cattle, 626; cows, 286; veal calves,
218; sheep and goats, 183;
stockers, 1,227 and pigs, 111.
The market at Brussels Livestock
saw top quality steers and heifers
selling $1 - $2 higher with the
second cut selling steady. Cows
sold $1 - $2 higher. On Thursday
heavy veal sold $2 - $4 lower with
lighter under pressure. Lambs sold
steady with last weeks. Friday the
grass cattle sold very strong with
the yearlings selling steady.
There were 435 steers on offer
selling from $86 to $90 to the high
of $101.50. Twenty steers con-
signed by Cunningham Farms,
Lucan, averaging 1,308 lbs. sold
for an average of $90.82 with sales
to $101.50. Light steers consigned
by Bob Alexander, Ethel, averaging
1,368 lbs. sold for an average of
$90.73 with sales to $98. Three
steers consigned by Geo., Paul, and
Mark Pennington, Mildmay,
averaging 1,328 lbs. sold for an
average of $87.59 with sales to
$96.
Twenty-one steers consigned by
Bob Rice, Staffa, averaging 1,449
lbs. sold for an average of $90.96
with sales to $95.25. Twelve steers

warns of
unsafe
cheese
The Huron County Health Unit
has become aware that cheese from
an unlicensed source may be
offered for sale in Huron County
and other areas of the London
region.
This ready-to-eat food product
may contain high levels of bacteria
rendering it unfit for human
consumption. These cheese
products may be offered for sale
under the following product
description from vendors:
• Crema Los Tres Hermanos, a
white creamy cheese in a 500 ml
clear plastic container with a snap
on lid, may not be labelled.
• Cheese white in colour, similar
to dry cottage cheese in a beige-
brown coloured "take-out"
styrofoam container, wrapped in
cellophane.
• Block cheese (hard, white
cheese) crumbles easily, wrapped
in clear cellophane or clear plastic
bags.
This notice is to alert the public
not to purchase or consume any
cheese products fitting the above-
noted description and to contact the
Huron County Health Unit, Public
Health Inspection Department at

if they have been approached
and/or purchased these food

The popular wage assistance
program for summer help on the
farm has been announced.
Application forms for the $3 per
hour assistance are available from
both the Agricultural Employment
Services offices and from
OMAFRA field offices.
Farmers applying for the
program must have had gross farm
production of at least $7,000 in
1994. For this year's program,
employers cannot hire a youth that
has worked more than 15 hours in
any week prior to May 19, 1995.
The employee being considered
cannot be an immediate family
member.
The period of employment has to
be at least six continuous weeks
with a minimum of 30 hours per

It's dairy good
The students of Grey Central Public School were treated
to tasty dairy products last Friday as Dairy Messenger
Kim Baan visited the school. Kera Lea Walker and Danny
Warlow help out with the preparations of a milkshake.
Ault Foods hosts reunion
Stacey Brothers, Ault Foods of
Mitchell, will soon be marking
their 100th anniversary and wel-
come all former employees,
friends, family and the public to
join them.
Set for June 22 to June 25, the
celebrations will involve a wide
variety of events for employees
such as a golf tournament, retiree
luncheon, slo-pitch tournament and
family picnic.
For the public, the centennial
committee has planned a pancake
breakfast at Keterson Park, a craft
sale at Mitchell Community Centre,
beef barbecue at Mitchell Arena
followed by a dance featuring
"Eddy and the Edsels" and a muse-
um of dairy memorabilia at the
Crystal Palace.
