Variety Night Concert a hit
Stompin' and clappin'
Those were the sounds which echoed through the
Belgave Community Centre on Friday evening as The
Renegades (linedancers) took to the stage during the
variety concert.
Belgrave, Blyth and Brussels
75th School Fair held a Variety
Night Concert on Friday, May 26 at
the Belgrave arena.
Starting off the evening, Bill
Stevenson master of ceremonies
welcomed everyone.
The school choirs sang 0
Canada. Grades 1-6 choir sang
from the East Wawanosh Public
School.
Next was a recorder solo from
Julia Thomson of Grade 7. Taking
part in a recorder ensemble playing
Ode to Joy were Grade 7 students,
Colleen Van Camp, Justin Black,
Cindy Freiburger, Laura Dillon,
Jonathan Cucksey, Justin Arkell,
Tim Robinson, Jim McCracken and
Julie Thomson on the keyboard.
Blyth Public School cloggers
were six-year-olds Mary
Thompson, Jenna Rinn, Kaitlyn
Toll, Hallie Hulzebos and Jonathan
Meurer.
Lila, Andrew and Ben Procter
sang, accompanied by Lila on the
guitar.
Line dancers - The Renegades,
Patt Dodds, Dorothy Burrell,
Donna Schill, Connie Dawson,
Paul King, Brian King, Dennis
McGlynn, Deb Krebb, and Darryl
Walker performed to Baby Likes to
Rock It, Stomp It Out an& the
Watermelon Crawl.
Performing next was the Coultes
family which consisted of Bill
Coultes, Janice Matheson, Karen
Cook, Joanne Robinson, Andrea
Two students from St. James
School in Seaforth, made a presen-
tation to the members of the Huron-
Perth County Roman Catholic
School Board at the April 24 meet-
ing, to illustrate the school's direc-
tion statement, "Competent Com-
municators."
Anita Kreutzwiser and Derek
Van Dieten recited speeches and
Principal Jim McDade distributed
information to the board.
Several personnel matters were
discussed at the meeting including:
granting a leave-of-absence for
Mike Masotti, from Sept. 1, 1995
to Aug. 31, 1996; decreasing the
contracts of Carol Mcllroy and
Auleen Theriault and increasing the
contracts of Christine 0' Grady,
Bernice Bishop, Franicine De-
Groot, Julie Murray and Gwen
Hugill.
Permanent contracts were given
to Mary Ellen Coombs, Deborah
Meyers, Francine DeGroot, Mary
Stevenson and Allison Wightman.
They were accompanied by Anne
Spivey on the piano.
Everyone was then favoured with
Old Time music from Ron
McBurney, Mary Coultes, Harvey
McDowell, Bert Pepper, Bob
McClinchey; Arnold Bruce, Frank
Hallahan, and Alex Robertson.
Martha and Earl Heywood
delighted the crowd as did Clifford
Coultes. A dance group from the
Blyth Public School performed.
The participants were Jackie Brak,
Kristie Blair, Shanda Loder, Karin
Schroecker, Ashley Howson,
Elisha Courtney, Julie Ritchie,
Leanne Haggitt and Michele
McNichol. A 10-minute intermis-
sion followed then Brussels Pipe
Band played after which there was
a solo by George Procter I'm 94
Today with wife Elizabeth Procter
on the piano.
Don Vair performed as Country
Clem; Justin Ruttan from the
Brussels Public School sang a solo.
Carry On Cloggers, consisting of
Marlene Toll, Marion Hallahan,
Marg Siertsema, Cheryl Wheeler,
Norma Daer, Jackie Bishop, Barb
McLellan, Annette Stephenson,
Bernice Gross and Laura May
Chamney performed to Amazing
Grace, Wink and Down at the Twist
and Shout.
Garth Walden and John
McDowell entertained with a duet.
The Hussey family, consisting of
Katherine Stapleton, Joanne Toni-
ni, Jacqueline Timmerman, Chris-
tine O'Grady, Rob Ford, Nijole
Tinits and Tanya Jeffery.
Patricia Shantz and Anne Marie
Bedard were hired as teacher assis-
tants.
Dr. Brown, director of education,
was directed to write a letter to the
federal government expressing the
board's concerns over the full pas-
sage of Bill C-41 relative to the
rights of Catholic school boards.
At a special meeting held on
May 9, the board approved the
transfer of Robert Hart, a custodi-
an, effective Aug. 16.
As of June 1, the board will
transfer semi-private hospital bene-
fits to its own experience basis rat-
ing.
In a trial run, a video camera
will be placed on one of the board-
owned school buses, with a report
on the usefulness and effectiveness
to follow.
Mark, Marla, Melinda, Matthew,
Micah, Manuel, Myron and
Montina, performed next.
The program was closed with the
school choirs singing This Land.
A special thanks was extended to
Mark Hussey for his sound system,
Paul Cook for the electrical work,
Bill Stevenson for coming back to
be the master of ceremonies,
Belgrave Co-op for donating pop
and the flowers for decoration,
Doris Robinson for printing the
programs, Jack Reavie Workshop.
for some of the decorations and to
everyone who helped put the stage
up, gathered chairs, and decorated
to help make the evening such a
success.
Last but not least thanks went to
everyone who took part in helping
to make the show a success as well
as a n enjoyable evening.
