Township spent the past weekend
with her grandmother, Mrs. Betty
Irwin.
Ross and Barbara Anderson
spent the past weekend with Doug
and Sheila Cousins and Brandon of
Guelph.
Scott Pletch, son of Dave and
Melanie Pletch, was released from
the hospital in London on Monday,
May 22.
Clarence Yuill was released from
the Wingham and District Hospital
in London on Tuesday, May 23.
Wayne Jerome is also home from
the hospital, as is George Michie.
Friends, neighbours and relatives
wish them all a speedy recovery.
Sincere sympathy is extended to
the families of Esther McCallum,
who passed away on Monday, May
22. May your thoughts and prayers
be with the family at this time of
sorrow.

spent the holiday weekend at Grand
Bend. They visited with Nelson,
Susan and Laura Desjardine of
Grand Bend, Garry Desjardine and
Simon of Grand Bend, Dave
Desjardine and Lori of Brampton,
Bob and Heather Maas of London.
Sixty-eight relatives and friends
celebrated May 24 weekend at the
home of Harvey, Audrey and Don
Edgar. This was a special day for
Harvey as it was his 75th birthday
which falls on May 24.
A variety of activities, including
On Thursday, May 18 the
Belgrave Girl Guides met with a
challenge to complete. Fourteen
girls painted six picnic tables from
the Community Ball Park and did a
good job.
On Saturday, May 20, 10 Girl
Guide met ar the Nature Centre for
a Bugs, Boots, and Bubbles
Spring Concert will be held at the
East Wawanosh Public School on
Wednesday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m.
Grades 5-8 will be the performing
classes.
The performance is H.M.S.
Pinafore. Everyone is most
welcome to attend.
Track and field meet was held at
East Wawanosh Public School
Thursday, May 25. Various
students will be selected to
participate in the regional track and
field meet to be held on Thursday,
June 1 at Howick Central School.
All prospective kindergarten
children, accompanied by either a
parent, guardian or babysitter are
invited to attend the Preschool Bus
Safety Program on Thursday,
June 1 at East Wawanosh Public
School. It is being presented by
Constable John Marshall, Public
Information Officer.
The program begins at 1:30 p.m.
and will take approximately one
hour. The students will have a short
ride on a school bus to learn about
loading, unloading, crossing the
road, and other safety tips.

crackers were enjoyed.
Harvey took the children to his
bush to see the spring flowers and
to hear the singing of the birds.
Following supper on Monday
night a beautiful decorated birthday
cake with candles was presented to
Harvey. After everyone sang happy
birthday the candles were blown
out and all were served a piece of
cake with ice cream.
He was then presented with a gift
of money and a collage of pictures
of the previous May 24
celebrations by his family.
Since the Edgar relatives have
gathered at this home for over 40
years many memories were
reminisced.
Relatives attended from Aylmer,
London, Petrolia, Brigden, Barrie,
Tavistock, Newry, Blyth,
Lucknow, Wingham and Belgrave.
On Saturday, May 20, Mrs. Larry
Mayberry of Londesboro visited
with her mother, Mrs. Beth Procter.
They enjoyed a ride as well as
dining out in Lucknow and then a
drive to Point Clark.
On Wednesday morning Mrs.
Larry Mayberry visited with her
mother again.
Laura Johnston, Ruth Johnston
accompanied Mabel Wheeler to
Elliott Lake to visit Rev. Peter
Tucker and Nancy Tucker.
Colleen Van der Jagt, Adam,
Abby, and Alex of Port Carling
spent the weekend with Betty
Irwin.

flowers and planted Russian Olive
bushes. This was followed by hot
dogs roasted over an open fire.
They missed the rain by sP.conds.
Penpals from Wingham Girl
Guides joined them as well as three
Wingham Scouts.
Refreshments will be served at
the conclusion.
The construction of a new junior
senior kindergarten classroom is
proceeding on schedule. The new
addition will be considerably larger
than a regular classroom and the
kindergarten students will now
have their own washrooms.
The present kindergarten room
will eventually be used for Music,
French and Special Education. It
will also be used by various school
support services such as: the school
health nurse, the occupational
therapist, and the health officials,
who conduct hearing and vision
assessments.
Moms meet
Mabel's Moms met on
Wednesday, May 24 at the home of
Mabel Wheeler. Attending were
Michelle Young and Sara; Sandra
Dorsch and Melinda; Melanie
Pletch, Scott, Meagan and Ben;
Julie Van Camp, Jeanine and
Jordan; Ruth Haines and William;
Sherry Taylor and Brandon;
Andrea Stevenson, Mathew and
Tyler; Annette Te Raa, Mitchell
and Janelle; Linda Hess and
Andrew; Joanie Robinson,
Stephanie and Nicole; Lila Procter
and Ben; Waneta Leishman, Aimee
and Melissa; and Rev. Mary Jane
Hobden.

Ascension
Sunday
An organ prelude of sacred music
presented by Mrs. Elizabeth
Procter, organist, welcomed
members to the Knox United
Church, Belgrave on Ascension
Sunday, May 28. An arrangement
of early summer flowers on the
communion cabinet added beauty
to the sanctuary.
In the absence of the minister,
Rev. Mary Jane Hobden, Murray
Scott ably conducted the service,
assisted by Mrs. Ruth Haines, who
read the scripture passages.
Greetings from the president as
printed in the bulletin for the
Belgrave charge were read by
Murray Scott.
Cathy Walker used the miracle of
Jesus restoring life to the 12-year-
old daughter of Jairus as a basis for
the children's story line.
The choir of mixed voices with
piano accompaniment by Elizabeth
Procter sang If You Love Me.
An inspiring drama "The
Ascension Promise" was well
presented by Dorothy Coultes, Lila_
Procter, Donelda Cottrill, Joanne
Robinson and Heather McIntosh.
Offeratory stewards were Ken
Procter, Arnold Spivey, Kendra
Folkard and Michele Pletch.
The singing of the hymns At the
Name of Jesus, The Head That
Once was Crowned, Come Let Us
Sing and Crown Him With Many
Crowns added to the sanctity of a
meaningful service.
