The Optimist Club of Blyth and
District held a bike rodeo on May
10 at the Blyth Community Centre.
Blyth Public School students
from kindergarten to Grade 6
participated in the program. The
rodeo consisted of a video entitled
"Gearing Up" and a bike safety
quiz. A bike inspection was given
before the students participated in a
series of activities designed to test
their skill and knowledge of the
rules of the road.

The tender for the watermain
work on McConnell St. has gone to
a local firm, one of four to bid for
the job.
Blyth councillors were told at the
May 15 meeting that the tender was
awarded to Nesbitt Construction.
"We are pleased to have stayed
with a local contractor and we're
sure he'll do a good job," said
Councillor Doug Scrimgeour.
The tenders ranged in price from
$42,000 to $85,000 approximately,
Reeve Mason Bailey said, with a
total of $30,000 between the lowest
two tenders. "You can bet the
engineer checked this thoroughly to
make sure there is no mistake, but
everything seems to be all right,"
he said.
Council also looked at whether to
try and shift some of the street
lighting infrastructure money to
pay the overspending on the
sand/salt storage shed. However, as
