THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 10, 1995. PAGE 11.
Brownies, Guides clean park
Mabels Moms was held Wednes-
day, May 3 at the home of Ruth
Haines. The topic they chose to
discuss was advantages and
disadvantages of giving home birth
rather than hospital birth.
Attending were Michele Young
and Sara; Melanie Pletch, Meagan
and Ben; Ruth Haines, Brittany and
William; Donna Raynard, Trevor
and Heidi; Andrea Stevenson,
Mathew and Tyler; Waneta
Leishman and Melissa; Linda Hess
and Andrew; Joanne Robinson,
Nicole and Stephanie.
They welcomed Sherry Sipple,
Christy, Daniel and Scott as new
members.
Ruth served refreshments and a
social time followed.
On Wednesday, May 3 a large
number of senior citizens boarded
the bus to go and see Forever Plaid
at the New Yorker Theatre in
Toronto. Everyone thoroughly
enjoyed seeing this great musical.
Later they dined at the Town and
Country Restaurant before
returning home.
Plan to attend Musical Moments,
an evening of music at Knox
United Church at 7:30 p.m. Tickets
are available from both session
members.
The evening will include
performances by many different
groups from the churches and area.
Phil Main will be entertaining
with some of the music from the
tape he and his friends Amy
Bateman and Andrea Grant
produced.
Dave and Joyce Hanna were
down from North Battleford to help
with the sale of the late Ruby
Hanna's home. Ruby was Dave's
mother. They visited with relatives
and friends and stayed at Eldon and
Lorraine Cook's.
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Pfeiffer, Tom
and Holly among many other
friends and relatives attended the
burial service at Brandon Cemetery
for Mrs. Hanna.
On Wednesday, May 3 the
Brownies and Girl Guides divided
into groups and cleaned up the ball
park.
The Third year Brownies were
each given 25 cents to use the pay
phone and were supposed to call
someone to get them used to using
the phone.
Afterwards they went to the
arena where they played games and
sang songs.
Ken Hopper treated them with
donuts and pop for their help in
cleaning up. Special thanks to Ken
from the Brownies and Guides for
being so generous.
Some Girl Guides did their pet
keeper badge. Julie VanCamp
willingly donated her time in
testing the girls for the badge.
Thanks Julie.
Congratulations to Shawn
Gailbraith who placed first with 85
points in classical guitar at the
Walkerton Rotary Music Festival
on Wednesday, May 3.
Doug and Sheila Cousins and
Brandon of Guelph spent the past
weekend with Ross and Barbara
Anderson.
Clarence Yuill is a patient at
Stratford General Hospital, where
he underwent an operation.
Clarence is doing well. Friends and
neighbours wish him a speedy
recovery.
Belgrave Belles have changed
their name of the ball team. They
are now known as the Belgrave B
Boppers. On Thursday, May 4 they
played against the Wingham
Wranglers at the Riverside Park.
Black flies don't actually bite - they
use their saw-like teeth to scrape
the skin surface and then lick the
blood from the wound. Because of
their tiny size, they tend to fly into
people's eyes, ears and nostrils.
Belgrave came out on top with a
score of 18 - 8.
Rev. Mary Jane Hobden is a
patient again at the Seaforth
General Hospital. Friends,
neighbours and the congregations
of Calvin Brick and Knox United
Church wish Mary Jane a speedy
recovery.
Mrs. Howard Zettler of
Walkerton visited with her mother,
Beth Procter on Wednesday and
Thursday of last week.
After the closing of Trinity
Anglican Church the family of
Beth Procter visited at her home
and enjoyed a light lunch. Family
included Mrs. Philip Stopforth and
little Alexandria of Oakville, Mr.
and Mrs. Howard Zettler, Sherry,
Amanda, and Alicia of RR 4,
Walkerton, Mrs. Larry Mayberry of
Londesboro and Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Procter of RR 5, Brussels.
John and Linda Campbell,
Jeremy and Justin spent last
weekend at Grand Bend and visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Maass,
London, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson
Desjardine and Laura, Garry, and
Simon Desjardine and Lynne
Desjardine of Grand Bend.
The Evening Unit of the UCW
met at the home of Louise Bosman
with 16 members answering the
roll call with an axiom.
Muriel Coultes opened the
meeting with a poem "Have You
Ever" and a short story about
dandelions.
The theme of the worship service
was "Serve the Lord with Glad-
ness" presented by Mabel Wheeler
