Seaforth Hosp.
makes changes
With new accreditation guide-
lines coming into effect for hospi-
tals, Seaforth Community Hospital
has decided to meet the new stan-
dards rather than follow the old
rules.
"This is a bit of a risk, but it is a
move in the right direction," says
Chief Executive Officer Bill Thib-
ert.
Seaforth Hospital will be one of
the first to be evaluated under the
new guidelines which put a greater
emphasis on patients and the health
care teams rather than departments.
In a move to meet the "Total
Quality Management" model, 10
staff attended a two day workshop
in the fall of 1993 and again in the
spring of 1994, to discuss concepts
and techniques with a consultant.
The quality council set up by the
hospital has implemented two pilot
projects, working on the delivery of
rehabilitation services and reducing
the number of times patients fall
down.
The staff is being educated about
Total Quality Management.

Lib. office opens
Former senior cabinet minister
and leadership rival Murray Elston
was on hand to speak to a gathering
of press and public at the opening
of Huron Liberal candidate John
Jewitt's Goderich committee room,
located at 44 Victoria Street North.
"The opportunity to speak to
many friends and supporters in
Goderich in support of John Jewitt
is welcome," said Elston. "The Lyn
McLeod Plan is a document of
integrity and represents the deep
commitment to fiscal responsibility
that has been desperately lacking in
the last four and a half years. John
Jewitt will be a natural choice to
represent Huron in what will surely
be a Liberal majority government."
Reiterating Elston's concerns for
the financial status, Jewitt said the
"skyrocketing debt has got to be
our primary focus. It is a threat to
everything the people of Huron
County have come to expect from
the tax dollars they contribute each
year."
"I hope people will come forward
with their concerns and questions,"
said Jewitt.
