Man jailed for second drunk driving offense
An RR2, Lucknow man, who
was caught driving drunk less than
a week after being in court on the
same charge, was sentenced to
three months in jail when he
appeared in Wingham's provincial
court Wednesday.
Crown Attorney Bob Morris told
Judge R.G.E. Hunter that Randy
Bates was stopped by police on
Sept. 6 while speeding on Hwy 86
Slippery roads have caused some
problems throughout the area over
the weekend and early this week.
A spokesperson from the Wing-
ham OPP said road conditions were
the cause of a two car crash in
Blyth shortly after noon on Satur-
day. Andrew Siegers, 22, of Blyth
was travelling south on Coombs St.
when he slid through the intersec-
in Morris Twp. Mr. Morris said Mr.
Bates was driving at 117 kilometres
per hour in an 80 zone when Const.
Shute saw him. The officer caught
up and Mr. Bates pulled into a pri-
vate driveway. There was open
beer in the truck.
He was taken to the police station
for a breathalizer test. Both read-
ings were 180.
Mr. Morris said Mr. Bates had
tion at Dinsley St. and collided
with an east bound 1988 Pontiac.
The driver of the second vehicle,
21-year-old Julie Chapman of Bel-
grave was taken to Clinton hospital
by a relative where she was treated
for minor injuries, the spokesper-
son said.
Damage to Mr. Siegers 1984
Olds was listed as moderate, while
been convicted on an over 80
charge Sept. 2 for which he had
been fined and had his license sus-
pended.
Judge Hunter gaVe Mr. Bates,
who pled guilty, two months on the
over 80 charge and one month for
driving while under suspension to
be served consecutively. His
license was suspended for three
years.
the Chapman car sustained severe
damage.
No charges were laid.
Early Monday morning OPP
investigated two accidents at the
corner of Hwy 4 and Hwy 86. Both
accidents were the result of slip-
pery road conditions, the
spokesperson said.
No further details were available
at press time. Thanks
