Man jailed for second drunk driving offense An RR2, Lucknow man, who was caught driving drunk less than a week after being in court on the same charge, was sentenced to three months in jail when he appeared in Wingham's provincial court Wednesday. Crown Attorney Bob Morris told Judge R.G.E. Hunter that Randy Bates was stopped by police on Sept. 6 while speeding on Hwy 86 Slippery roads have caused some problems throughout the area over the weekend and early this week. A spokesperson from the Wing- ham OPP said road conditions were the cause of a two car crash in Blyth shortly after noon on Satur- day. Andrew Siegers, 22, of Blyth was travelling south on Coombs St. when he slid through the intersec- in Morris Twp. Mr. Morris said Mr. Bates was driving at 117 kilometres per hour in an 80 zone when Const. Shute saw him. The officer caught up and Mr. Bates pulled into a pri- vate driveway. There was open beer in the truck. He was taken to the police station for a breathalizer test. Both read- ings were 180. Both accidents were the result of slip- pery road conditions, the spokesperson said. No further details were available at press time. Slippery roads cause accidents Goderich OPP report Police find snowmobile From Feb. 13 to Feb. 26 officers from the Goderich OPP investigat- ed 72 occurrences, including 19 motor vehicle collisions and 10 traffic complaints. *** Police are investigating a break and enter at Hullett Twp. where during the past six weeks, parts totalling $300 have been stolen from an Arctic Cat snow machine, which was stored in a barn. *** On Feb. 17 police recovered a 1989 Ski Doo, valued at $2,000 on private property at Conc. 11 in Hul- lett. The machine had been taken from Blyth. *** On Feb. 21, a passing motorist noticed flames coming from the side of a house trailer on Albert St. in Dungannon. The Lucknow Fire Department attended. The trailer was valued at $27,000. *** Police investigated a theft in McKillop Twp. Sometime between Feb. 17 and 20, at Conc. 12, a wire reel containing 10 rolls of wiring was stolen from a construction site. The value is $1,150. *** On Feb. 18, an undercarriage for a 1992 Polaris snowmobile was stolen from the back of a pick up truck in Vanastra. The value is $2,000. Belgrave man loses license A Be!grave man lost his license after pleading guilty in Wingham's provincial court, Feb. 16 to driving drunk. Judge R.G.E. Hunter was told that John Hewitt had been stopped by a police officer in Wingham on Dec. 16. The officer, after noticing signs of impairment, took Mr. Hewitt to the police station for a breathalizer test. The readings were 110 and 120. The 25-year-old had no previous record. He was fined $750 or 35 days and his license was suspended for 12 months.
