PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15.1995.
Tracy Goodland of Brussels Public School, was having
trouble taking another glide-step as she returned, with her
classmates, after a day of cross-country skiing. The cold
and blustery weather on Feb. 10 were not the ideal
conditions for outdoor activities, but eight students from the
Grade?/8 class managed the trek back to the school.

Students wrap
up curling
sessions
By Mike Cooper and Matt
Snyder
The Grade 7/8 class has just
finished up curling sessions at
BMG arena. The winning team
members were second, Trevor
Wilson, skip, Ashley Gropp, vice,
Patrick Gilkes and lead, Andrew
Grant. The team had 25 points.
We give a special thanks to the
adult volunteers who helped us
with our curling skills. We also
thank the Parents' Association who
sponsored us so this could happen.
Mr. Prior has been busy with his
computer, updating the report card
designs for the Huron County
Board of Education. He will be
presenting training workshops for
other teachers around the county.
On Monday we started magazine
sales. In two days we have
collected $3,117. This project will
be over in 10 days. The proceeds
will go towards class trips and the
instrumental music program,
materials and repairs.
On Feb. 10 Mrs. Hall's Grade 1
class celebrated their 100th day at
school this year. They and their
reading buddies made '100th day at
school' booklets. We hope they
have fun.
The Grade 7/8 class is finally
going skiing on Feb. 10. They will
be leaving the school at 11 a.m.
eating lunch at Patches playing a
few games and returning to the
school around 3 p.m.
The Grade 5 and 6 dance was
from 1:30 to 3:30 on Feb. 10. We
hope everyone danced to the beat.
Brussels
council briefs
Brussels council agreed at its
Feb. 6 meeting that Frederick St.
residents will be given several
options to pay the bill for the new
drain.
The drain was requested by Mor-
ris Twp. neighbour Tom Miller.
Brussels was billed $12,000 for the
work. An earlier decision was made
that the village not pay the cost, but
that it be paid by the Frederick St.
residents.
Clerk-Treasurer Donna White
told council that the eight affected
households have been assessed for
their share which varies from
$3,300 to $60. She suggested the
residents get until May 1 to pay,
after which they will have the
option to make arrangements for
special payment plans or have it
added to their taxes.
Councillors agreed saying they
felt it was at least giving everyone
a bit of notice without any interest
being added.

Reeve Gord Workman and Coun-
cillor Joe Seili are attending a
meeting at the Waterloo Inn to
show support for the hosting of the
1999 Plowing Match in the area.
Councillor Seili, who had attend-
ed a meeting in Clinton to discuss
hosting the match in Huron, said
that he felt the Brussels-area farm
of Joe Semple had a good chance
bf being chosen. "If it is, the bene-
fits to this town couldn't be mea-
sured," he said.
