Brussels Livestock report Don Fraser heifer hits $98 Sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending Dec. 2 were: fed cattle, 797; cows, 441; veal calves, 185; sheep and goats, 103; Stockers, 1,650; and pigs, light run. The market at Brussels Livestock saw fed steers and heifers selling fully steady. Cows also sold steady. Veal and lambs sold on a strong active trade. Stockers traded steady to last week. There were 498 steers on offer selling from $90 to $95 to the high of $106.50. Twenty steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan, averaging 1,448 lbs. sold for an average of $94.97 with sales to $106.50. Five steers consigned by K & A Beef Farms, Wroxeter, averaging 1,330 lbs. sold for an average of $101.23 with sales to $104.25. Thirteen steers consigned by Schmidt Brook Farms Inc., Woodstock, averaging 1,475 lbs. sold for an average of $93.19 with sales to $99.50. Twelve steers consigned by Ron Coulter, Creemore, averaging 1,358 lbs. sold for an average of $92.63 with sales to $98.50. She also won the Don Pullen Award for the 4-H member receiving the highest number of points on the Basis of Awards for 4-H club work in 1994. Jeff Grobbmk, RR3, Walton, captured two awards in the Huron County Plowmen's Club, the Neil McGavin Award as the highest scoring member and the Sodbuster Leader Award for the top land plowed at the achievement program with a non-competitive plow. She also won the Cargill Limited Award as the top intermediate judge in the same competition and shared the Hallrice Dairy Club Team Judging Compe­ tition Award. Kristy Caldwell, RR3, Blyth, won the Huron Beef Producers Award as the first year beef club member with the highest score. Corey Rintoul, RR2, Lucknow, won the Stan Jackson Award for the Champion Steer at the Seaforth Fair and the J. A. Anstett Ward as the Champion Junior Showman at the Seaforth Fair. Tim Robinson, RR1, Belgrave, won the Huron Soil and Crop Improvement Association award as outstanding member of the North Huron Com Huskers. F arm Brussels II Woodchucks discuss tools and shapes The fourth meeting of the Brussels II Woodchucks was held on Thursday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. al the home of Mary Sanders. They opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge and 16 members answered the roll call by explaining how some wooden items got their shapes and what tool might have been used to make the shape. Some of the members read some of the information from the members' manual. Bert Sanders was present to explain the proper way to hold and swing a hammer. Members were taken into his workshop to practise driving nails into different kinds of wood. They all had their own hammers. Wilma and Mary had cut out the pieces and showed how to put them together. Bert showed how to use the holesaw and drill to drill out the entry and perch holes. Bert had to customize some of the bottoms to fit. After the houses were complete, they drilled the holes for the screws. Melissa Rammleoo thanked Bert for all his help.
