Brussels II Woodchucks
discuss tools and shapes
The fourth meeting of the
Brussels II Woodchucks was held
on Thursday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. al
the home of Mary Sanders. They
opened the meeting with the 4-H
pledge and 16 members answered
the roll call by explaining how
some wooden items got their
shapes and what tool might have
been used to make the shape. Some
of the members read some of the
information from the members'
manual.
Bert Sanders was present to
explain the proper way to hold and
swing a hammer. Members were
taken into his workshop to practise
driving nails into different kinds of
wood. They all had their own
hammers.

When they were confident, they
started putting the bluebird houses
together. Wilma and Mary had cut
out the pieces and showed how to
put them together.
Bert showed how to use the
holesaw and drill to drill out the
entry and perch holes. Bert had to
customize some of the bottoms to
fit.
After the houses were complete,
they drilled the holes for the
screws. Melissa Rammleoo thanked
Bert for all his help.
When they were all finished with
the birdhouses, they sanded
wooden apples in preparation for
painting.
They closed the meeting with the
