[Compiled by Margaret McMahon Phone 887-9250 B. Dobson wins draw The Londesboro UCW will hold its Christmas potluck meeting on Monday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the church. Rev. Cheryl-Anne Stadelbauer-Sampa will be the guest speaker. Items of non-perishable foods will be collected for the Food Bank at Clinton Salvation Army. All ladies of the congregation are invited to attend. The November meeting of Londesboro UCW was held at the church on Monday evening, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. They opened the meeting with the UCW purpose. Brenda read a minute for missions. Mary Peel gave her report on Church in Society. Margaret Good gave the card report. Helen Lee reported on the funeral committee. Gail Lear gave the World Outreach report. Mary Peel gave a report on the nominating committee. The representative to the Board of Stewards is Betty Hulley. Helen Lee reported on the quilts done in 1994. Betty Hulley reported on the social committee. Joan Whyte gave the Christian Development report. Linda Horbanuik moved all reports be accepted as read. Betty Hulley gave the minutes of the executive meeting held at Brenda's on Oct. 24. Dorothy Tamblyn gave the financial report. Since the last meeting the balance if $3,135.24. Collection and birthday pennies were taken up. Brenda gave a report on recycling of fixtures and building supplies. Edythe thanked everyone who helped with Laura's 90th birthday party in October. Donations for 1994 were for: Camp Menesetung, medical electives, Sunshine Foundation, Huron Day Centre, Bluewater Club, Resource Centre, Clinton and Seaforth Hospitals, Friendship House, Homemakers. Total for donations is $975. Thank you cards were read from Clare Vincent, Londesboro Board of Stewards and Lana Jones. Helen Lee will get boxes for the tablecloths and a shelf to put them on. Tray favours were made for Clinton hospital and shutins. It was decided that the group will buy folders for the choir members' use. A donation of $200 is being given to help pay for the playground equipment at the school. A donation of $1,000 will be given to the board of stewards. Lunch was served by Mary Peel, Betty Millar and Edna Reid. Senior choir practice will be held at 10 a.m. next Sunday. People The sympathy of the community is extended to Murray, Brad and Deanna Lyon on the sudden passing of Shirley Lyon. She was the loved sister of Milt and Helen Dale. Cranbrook 4-H talks cookies By Sarah McLellan The Cranbrook 4-Hers held their fifth meeting on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. The meeting started with the reciting of the 4-H pledge with roll call following, for which the question was, "What is your favourite cookie?" Popular answers were chocolate chip and Oreo. After doing some reading in the cock, they made peanut butter and oatmeal cookies and applesauce-oat squares, minus the applesauce. After the baking was complete, they tasted our cookies with a drink. Doris Jacklin and Dorothy Dil­ worth hosted 12 tables of euchre Monday evening at the Ethel Hall. Winners were: tally card draw, Bill Dobson, Shirely Verstoep, Lome Lambkin, Isabelle Craig, Bob Bateman, Donna Moore, Jim 50/50 draw, Isabelle Craig; high man, Violet and Jim Smith, Scott McLean; low man, Stan Hewitt and Mel Jacklin; high lady, Patsy O'Grady; low lady, Velma Sleightholm. The next euchre will be Dec. 5 at Cooper and Lois McLean; most lone hands, Eva and Charlie Harri­ son; lucky table number eight, Mac Smith, Ross Stephenson, Eve Schneider and Margaret McMahon; 8:30 p.m. Belated 50th wedding anniver­ sary wishes to Stan and Helen Alexander of Ethel. Thomas J. Cunningham Hospital Auxiliary hosts show The Wingham Golf and Curling Club was decorated for the festive season Wednesday, Nov. 17 when a sell-out crowd enjoyed a luncheon and a preview of Christmas fashions sponsored by the auxiliary of the Wingham and District Hospital as a fundraising event. Through the co-operation of the manager Mr. Ron Knight of the Wingham Golf and Curling Club and the auxiliary all proceeds will go to projects of the auxiliary at the hospital. Past President Mary Lou Cameron welcomed all present after which Past President Marilyn Wood said grace. A very tasty lunch was served. As Wingham Hospital is a district hospital the fashions and models were from Wingham and district stores. Mrs. Carol Helfenstein, editor and publisher of The Teeswater News was the commentator for the event. As she commentated she suggested that this festive season we should try and shop in our own area and support our local stores. Mrs. Myrla Frank, Wingham, played Christmas music on the piano while the models walked amongst the tables showing off the outfits they were modelling. Several draw prizes were made and donated by auxiliary members as well as some donated by mer­ chants. Mrs. Jean Betts of RR 2, Teeswater was guest soloist and was accompanied by Mrs. Helen Keith, Teeswater, on the piano. The committee for this event were auxiliary members Marie Phillips, Marilyn Wood, Marion MacKcnzie, Dianne Dolittle, Mary Lou Cameron and Marlene Leedham. The committee wishes to thank everyone who participated in this event and all who attended. All proceeds will go to the work of the auxiliary. Next meeting of the auxiliary is Monday, Nov. 28 at 1:30 p.m. in the boardroom of the hospital. Speaker will be Jane Tolton, speech pathologist.
