Students to attend Remembrance Day service
HALLOWEEN
On Monday the children enjoyed
a costume parade and the Primary
students had a short dance and
party afterwards.
The students of Blyth Public
School would like to thank all
those who donated to their
UNICEF boxes. A total of $230
was collected.
REMEMBRANCE DAY
Blyth students have been busy all
week preparing poems, essays and
posters for the Legion contests.
Students will be participating at the

small and had no river or bush like
we have.
Their subjects included math,
reading, spelling, science, music,
phys. ed, religion, home, ec., and
French starting at Grade 5.
At Christmas they had a two
week holiday, one week holiday for
Easter, a one week holiday in
October, and a five week holiday in
the summer.
On Wednesday they went to
church at 7 a.m. for religion classes
for kids and then a bus came to take
them to their regular classes at
8 a.m. and on Sundays they had
church with their whole family.
Debora likes Grey Central where
she is in Mrs. Whitmore's 5/6 class.
She misses her pals in Switzerland
but is happy with her friends here
at Grey.

On Oct. 31, Mr. Braun's Grade 7
and 8 class planned a Halloween
party for Grey students. They
organized fun games such as a bean
bag toss, haunted house, sponge
toss, pin the stem on the pumpkin,
dodge ball, egg roll, and scavenger
hunt.
Kindergarten to Grade 4
costumes were judged by the
students' council. After recess
Grades 5 and 8 held a dance in the
gym. Everyone had a great time.

With Jurassic Park and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs already
released and in millions of homes the only other movie which might
possibly sell in big numbers for the rest of the year is The Flintstones
**1/2 (MCA/Universal - $22.95 or less).
Reportedly the work of 32 writers, this high concept live action version
of the perennially popular cartoon series is over produced and yabba-
dabba dull. John Goodman, Elizabeth Perkins, Rick Moranis and Rosie
O'Donnell are fine as the Flintstones and Rubbles, but the story and
special effects are nothing really spectacular considering the amount of
time and money spent. (Rated PG)
Despite all the fanfare just before it opened in theatres this past spring,
City Slicker II: The Legend of Curly's Gold *** (Columbia/Tristar) failed
at the box office. The sequel to the popular 1991 hit isn't particularly
original with the story (written by Billy Crystal) sending the boys back to
the wide open spaces in search of buried gold, but I for one found these
characters worth two hours of my time. The cast includes Billy Crystal,
Daniel Stem, John Lovitz and Jack Palance as Curly's nasty twin brother.
(Rated PG-13)
I don't really know what to make of Even Cowgirls Get The Blues **
(Alliance), a bizarre Lesbian western about a woman with very large
thumbs starring Uma Thurman, Lorraine Bracco, Keanu Reeves, John
Hurt and directed by Gun Van Sant. Maybe I'm out of touch, but I prefer
the western of John Ford. (Rated R)
In the ciassic movie department is Open City **** (Kino/CHV), an
amazing film that has been acclaimed as "Europe's first post-war
masterpiece". Winning the Best Picture Award at the 1946 Cannes Film
Festival, Open City was shot in 1945 by director Roberto Rossellini (using
out of date fi.'m stock) on the streets of Rome during the first weeks of the
Allied liberation.
Balancing warm humour and terrifying violence, the film stars Anna
Magnani and Aldo Fabrizi as an impoverished woman and a parish priest
who both feel the brutality of the Nazis.
Open City is one of those acclaimed films I have heard about, but have
never seen, until now. This version from Kino is mastered from of pristine
35mm archive print and I highly recommend it. (Not rated - with easy to
read English sub-titles).
Among the week's other new and unpreviewed releases is Brainscan
(Columbia/Tristar) starring Edward Furlong (Terminator 2) as a lonely
teenager whose CD-ROM game leads him to the ultimate experience in
terror. (Rated R)
The big budget mini-series Texas (Worldvision), has its world premier
on home video before being broadcast later this year. Based on the epic
novel by James A. Michener, Texas recounts the early history of the state
and the fight for independence from Mexico. (Not rated)
Joe Pesci stars in With Honors (Warner) as a homeless man who teaches
four privileged Harvard students some important lessons in life. (Rated
PG-13)

GRADE 2/3
Monday was a busy day as we
celebrated Halloween in Grade 2/3.
The children had fun parading in
their costumes, dancing to Hallo
ween music, playing a variety of
games and snacking on pumpkin
muffins and carrot and celery
sticks.
With Tuesday being the first day
of November, we started talking
about "Now That Days Are Getting
Colder." We made puzzles,
plasticine pictures, made a big book
about the theme and read related
stories.
Next week we will be talking
about dinosaurs. We will be doing
this for the remainder of the month.
This past Thursday the dental
hygienist came for a classroom
visit. She discussed proper care and
brushing of our teeth.

This week we won the prize for
the best door in the door decorating
contest. We had a party Halloween
afternoon. We had games and
snacks. They were good! We are
busy putting out news stories on
the computers. We are doing a lot
of neat things in art. This week we
are making trees from India ink on
a blue and white and black wash.
PEACEMAKERS
By Leanne Haggitt
Greg Cullen, Chauncey Brown,
Julie Ritchie and I went to a
leadership program for our school
on Oct. 19. It was great.
We do a lot of hard work to
prepare for it. Things we did do to
get ready are made a tape, prepared
a skit, got traders such as pencils,
pens, pads of paper and book
markers.
I got picked up at 7:55 by Mrs.
Cronin. We picked up two more
people and we were off. I was so
excited I sat in the front and talked
to Mrs. Cronin.
We arrived in Orillia about 11:15
so we stopped for lunch at
McDonalds. We met some people
that were going to the camp. The
boys were playing in Happy Land
and got kicked out of Happy Land.
Then we headed to Lake
Couchiching. Well, we got there
and found out we weren't in the
same cabin. We were upset but we
made a lot of friends. It was a little
too much all those conferences. It
was a great experience. I would
love to go again!
Thanks everyone, especially Mrs.
Cronin.

HURON COUNTY KABLE
In recent years, the advanced technology has allowed cable
TV subscriptions to be delivered to town and country
residences anywhere via a wireless personal cable system.
The expense of running cable lines or installing new
fibreoptic lines to each resident in the country is not feasible.
Installing a wireless cable unit into each household allows
the subscribers to have access to over 120 free channels,
with the option of subscribing to specialty channels on an
individual basis (thus bypassing the middleman, "the cable
company").
This cable service can also be provided to the existing
satellite dish owner with a simple modification to their
equipment.
Allen Stubbs...First in Entertainment, has had over 10 years
experience in providing cable TV subscription signals from
their private cable systems throughout Ontario. Therefore
the wireless residential units are a natural addition to their
product line.
Allen Stubbs has been granted the exclusive right to rent,
lease, or sell wireless Country Kable systems throughout
Huron County. Additional information can be obtained by
calling the Allen Stubbs office in Thedford and talking to one
of their five representatives throughout the county. Monthly
magazines, channel charts and pricing, free viewing of the
VHS promotional tape, information packages, free
information seminars and much more can be obtained by
calling today. .
