Students have fun
By Christa Smith and
Jenny McKercher
Brussels PS participated in the
parade by putting in a float. We
thank Mr. Bondi for taking his time
to drive us using his truck and
flatbed. Grades 1 to 7 students
decorated the float using the pork
theme and some of ihcm rode in the
parade.
We interviewed the Grade 1 class
on their thoughts of the float and
the fair. Kyle Gibson said “I
helped decorate the float. We put
up balloons. The fair was lots of
fun.”
Bailey Thomas said “I went to
school in the morning to help
decorate the float. After the parade
I went on the rides.”
Next we went to the Grade 3/4
class. Kristen Hopper said she
blew up balloons and their class
made a big sign saying “This little
pig went to the market.”
Students from Grey and Brussels
put work in the Fair. I’m sure
many students were excited when
they found that they won a prize.
After the parade many students
enjoyed going on rides and eating
cotton candy. The rides included
The Round Up, The Scrambler,
The Dragon Wagon, The
Sidewinder and many others.
Grades 7 to 8 are participating in
a soccer tournament on Sept. 28 at
Grey Central School. Schools
participating are East Wawanosh,
Grey, Brussels, Wingham,
Tumbcrry and Howick.
On Sept. 28 students have a
chance to go to Blyth to see the
Ontario Youth Choir.

Leading off this week's new releases is The Nightmare Before
Christmas **** (Touchstone - $22.99), an absolutely wonderful animated
gem from producer Tim Burton (Batman). With all the big films due out
in the next few weeks it would be sad to see this one lost in the shuffle, so
check it out now.
This colourful and comedic film tells the story of Jack Skellington, the
beloved Pumpkin King of Hallowecntown, who, when he stumbles upon
the entrance to Christmastown decides to become a substitute Santa.
The music and songs by composer Danny Elfman are first rate and the
stop motion animation which combines meticulously crafted miniature
sets and puppets together in a three-dimensional world is thoroughly
enchanting. Highly recommended (Rated PG)
Also recommended is The Snapper **** (C/FP), another great film
from Ireland. The story follows a 20-ycar-old girl who lives at home and
discovers she is pregnant. This event not only sends shock waves through
the family, but into the community as a whole.
The Snapper is superbly directed by Stephen Frears and the script has
been adapted for the screen by Roddy Doyle (The Commitments) from his
own novel. (Rated PG-13 - coarse language)
Other highly recommended films of the new Irish cinema include Hear
My Song, The Playboys, The Commitments, My Left Foot, The Field and
Into The West.
Darryl Hanna begins a career slide with Attack Of The 50 ft. Woman
*1/2 (HBO), a oreadful re-make that’s even worse than the original low
budget quicky from the 1950s. (Rated PG)
In the classic movie department is one of my favourite John Wayne
westerns. Honda ***1/2 (MPI - $19.95) tells the story of a tough stranger
(Wayne) who rescues an abandoned woman and her young son from their
lonely New Mexico homestead during an Indian uprising. Directed by
John Farrow. Originally filmed in 3-D.
Fans of Audrey Hepburn will be interested in a special edition of
Breakfast at Tiffany's ***1/2 (Paramount - $74.95), a thoroughly
charming romantic film based on a story by Truman Capote. This
collector’s edition includes a new digitally re-mastered letterbox VHS
cassette, a copy of the script with notations by Audrey Hcpbum, a CD of
the Oscar winning score and many other extras.
Also worth checking out are these Hcpbum classics, Roman Holiday,
Sabrina and Charade.
This week’s new and unpreviewed releases include Bad Girls (Fox) a
feminist western starring Madeleine Stowe, Mary Stuart Masterson, Drew
Barrymore and Andie MacDowcll. (Rated R)
You can also catch Madeleine Stowe along with Ed Harris in China
Moon (Orion), the story of a lonely cop who becomes involved with a
married woman and her abusive husband. (Rated R)
In The Cowboy Way (MCA/Univcrsal) Woody Harrelson and Kiefer
Sutherland play two bronebusters from New Mexico who take on the Big
Apple. (Rated PG-13)

MR. PARK
By Leisa McCall
Mr. Park came from Howick
Public School, where he taught
Grade 1. Mr. Park has been
assigned Grade 4/5 here at Grey.
Mr. Park says his thoughts about
Grey were very positive. He likes
our big playground, and the fact
that our school is in a natural
environment. We have a very
environmentally-conscious school,
he says. He enjoys the staff.
Mr. Park has been teaching for
22 years! Mr. Park said that
students and staff were friendly,
making him feel welcome. For
hobbies Mr. Park likes music -
playing the guitar, banjo, fiddle,
and autoharp. He enjoys
woodworking. He has made an
instrument. He also enjoys story
telling and canoe tripping. On his
weekends he enjoys reading,
visiting, playing music, school
work, and gardening.
He was born in Toronto and
raised in Brantford.
Mr. Park hopes to start up a chess
club with Mr. Braun, and would
like to have his class start story
telling. He heard that Grey had
great staff and students. He drove
over and saw how new and
beautiful it looked. Mr. Park has
been married for 2 years. He and
his wife Mary have no kids, and
live on a farm near Harriston.
