Hullett council supports tax exemption Hullett councillors agreed at the Sept. 6 meeting, to support the res­ olution put forth by the Town of Walkerton, regarding a tax exemp­ tion for municipal councillors' remuneration. Councillors will support a peti­ tion to the federal and provincial governments, asking that the first $10,000 of municipal councillor remuneration be exempt from any and all taxation and that any amount in excess of $10,000 be subject to the existing 1/3 taxation exemption. The Court of Revision for the Whyte Municipal Drain was set for Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. Council provision­ ally adopted the drainage report with a revised assessment schedule. The tender submitted by Radford Construction, for the rebuilding of part Sideroad 15/16, Cone. 1 at a cost of $19,093, was accepted. A bylaw was passed to impose special drainage rates upon land in respect to money borrowed under the Tile Drainage Act, in the amount of $11,200. Council had no objections to the proposed official plan amendment 253 for the Twp. of West Wawanosh. Chief Building Official Karl MacNaughton will attend a seminar in Windsor from Nov. 14 to 16, at a cost of $210. The road and general accounts for August, were approved for pay­ ment in the amounts of $16,995.41 and $50,993.97, respectively. Central Huron Mobility Steering Committee (CHuMS) made a pre­ sentation to council on Sept. 20 to explain the service and provide a status report. CHuMS has conducted a survey to determine ridership. Council will consider a draft agreement presented to them. Council will send a letter the Huron County Planning Depart­ ment in support of a proposed amendment to the planning act. Office assistant B. Rouse will attend an employee administration seminar at Benmiller Inn on Oct. 19, regarding Ontario municipal employees retirement plan. Council will send a letter to the Auburn Lions club to commend them for beautifying the entrance to Auburn along the baseline. Alzheimer Soc. plans retreat On Aug. 31 the board of directors of ihe Alzheimer Society of Huron County met for their regular monthly meeting at their offices in Clinton. The minutes of the July meeting were adopted as read and the treasurer’s report was accepted as presented. It was mentioned that a weekend retreat for family caregivers is being held Oct. 21, 22, 23 at Port Stanton, Severn Bridge with guest speaker Dr. Gcila. The cost is $260, which includes accommodation and meals. More information can be obtained by calling 1-800-561- 5012. A video tape entitled "Just for the Summer" has been received compliments of the Eastern Star, Bluewater Chapter, Goderich. Membership to dale is 50. The "Wandering Patient" booklets arc in the process of being updated and sent to press. A cleaning person has been hired to clean the office on a once a month basis. Fundraising projects were discussed, namely the Tag Day, Sept. 10 and the “Forget Me Not" quill.
