Bulls split with Erin WOAA expands to 21 teams The Brussels Bulls ended their exhibition schedule Saturday with a record of three and one. The Bulls split a pair of games with the Erin Sabres of the Mid-Ontario Junior C League on the weekend. Friday night the Bulls travelled to Erin and came home with a 6 - I victory. Brian Zabel and Nate Bender paced the attack with two goals each. Bender also set up two goals while linemate Greg McNevan picked up three assists. Ryan Wright and Brandon Alviano also picked up goals. Ryan Fisk and Ryan Sanders split the goaltending duties. Saturday afternoon the Bulls came out of the gate slowly giving up a goal to Erin in the first 15 seconds. While the locals stayed close for much of the game the Sabres went home with an 8 - 5 victory. Peter Ryter scored twice for the Bulls plus added an assist. Nate Bender, Pete Mulder and Brandon Alviano also found the net. Sanders, Fisk and Jamie Thomas each played a period between the pipes. Coach Scott Pettigrew said, “We may have been a little over confident after winning three straight. I hope they realize you have to come to the rink prepared to play because with the parity in our league this year anyone can beat anyone.” The Bulls will open the regular season Saturday night at 8:30 in Wingham against the Ironmen. This season’s edition of the Bulls will have a strong local flavour. Along with veterans Greg Fritz of Brussels and Peter Mulder of Monkton this year’s batch of rookies includes defenceman Chris Stevenson of the Brussels Midgets, Brad Bcuermann and Mike MacKay from the Brussels Snoivmobilers attend confer. Snowmobilers from across Ontario gathered at Huntsville's Dccrhurst Resort on Sept 16 to 18, for the largest international snow- mobiling convention. The Ontario Federation of Snow­ mobile Clubs (OFSC) issued a press release stating that member­ ship has risen 20 per cent tc 165,000 families. The snowmo­ bile-related spending reached half a billion and accounted for 40 per cent of Canada's total. OFSC Marketing Director John Blaichcr says, "Snowmobiling is Ontario's leading economic force in the winter. Il has brought new pros­ perity, jobs and business to snow- bcll communities." Muskoka MPP Dan Waters spoke to the delegates saying, "The provincial government's investment of $20.8 million over three years, for snowmobile trail rehabilitation and reconstruction, in co-operation with OFSC, has had a full return in only two years." The 9,500 km Trans Ontario Provincial Trail system will be offi­ cially introduced to the internation­ al snowmobiling community in early 1995. OFSC Vice-President Peter Ovcringlon says, "We operate the largest and safest system in the world, with over 35,000 km of groomed trails." Work has already begun on many trails, in preparation for winter. Juveniles, Brian McNichol from the Blyth Midgets an Atwood native Ryan Sanders, who played goal last year for the Listowcl Midgets. Chad McCallum of the Brussels Midgets is also expected to suit up for some games. The Bulls will also play Mt Forest Sunday afternoon at 1:30 in Durham. The Bulls home opener will be Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2 against the Wiarton Wolves. This young engineer is right on track keeping a close eye on this train's progress. The ride was a highlight with the many little ones in attendance at the Brussels Fall Fair.
