GRADES 3,4,5 An animal made from a plastic container - Jill Speiran, Grey; Tamara Diehl, Grey; Brook Nature Centre celebrates milestone Bring the whole family out to enjoy the Fall Colour Tour at Wawanosh Valley Conservation Area on Sunday, Oct. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. Enjoy a wagon ride or hike to take in the fall colours, and drop in to the Wawanosh Nature Centre for some cake and apple cider to mark 10 years of conservation education activities on the properly. Back by popular demand, horse- drawn wagon rides will be available during th Colour Tour starting at 1:30 p.m. The wagon ride offers a great view of the spectacular autumn scenery . Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) staff will be along to answer any questions visitors might have about what’s happening in the fields and forest at this lime of year. Staff will be pleased to solve the mystery of why the leaves on some trees turn colour in the fall. Guided walks will also be available, or visitors can pick up a trail map and explore the trails at Wawanosh Valley on their own. Wawanosh Valley is a 400 acre conservation area situated along the Mailland River. The property includes hardwood forests, meadows, conifer plantations and a small marsh. An extensive trail system allows visitors an opportunity to explore the site. The Wawanosh Nature Centre, located on the property, is used extensively by school groups for conservation education activities. This fall marks the tenth anniversary of conservation education activities at the Nature Centre. In the fall of 1984, 380 students participated in the six activities offered al Wawanosh. This season over 20 activities arc being offered with an anticipated attendance of 2,000 students. Since Wheeler, Brussels. Hot apple cider (if possible please bring your own mug) and birthday cake will be served throughout the afternoon and there will be a variety of displays highlighting 10 years of conservation education. A variety of hands-on conservation activities will also be available for children to explore. The Centre is wheelchair accessible.
