Absent was Kevin Souch, son of Murray and Joanne. The fundraising campaign will soon be underway for Huron Unit ed Way, an organization which supports 19 agencies in the county. "The United Way has been very successful in other communities," says Campaign Chair Mike Sully, but the United Way was only estab lished in Huron County in 1991 and is still quite new to the resi dents. The United Way hopes to top $140,000 in their .fundraising efforts from Oct. 3 to 31, which .would be a 10 percent increase over 1993.' ' , More than 500 volunteers will donate their time to the campaign thereby allowing 99 per cent of all money raised to be spent on ser vices within Huron County, says Mr. Sully. The agencies supported by the United Way reach over 3,000 peo ple each year with that number again not receiving services due to lack of funds, he says. Those numbers include 500 seniors, 1,200 youth, 600 with physical or mental handicaps and an additional 700 for various rea sons. Donors to the United Way are free to direct their money to specif ic agencies, if they wish and receipts are provided. Ken Pennington’s .ro«j D.J.
