With some quick installation the new street lights were up
and ready for the show on Friday night when the village
held a special celebration to officially turn on the lights.

A second Blylh resident has
stepped forward to declare his
intention to run for a scat on coun
cil in this fall’s municipal election.
Mr. Ritchie says he is running for
council because he would like to
see the village run more as a village
and less like an urban centre. "As a
taxpayer I feel we can't afford to be
taxed as high as they are in larger
municipalities. Basically, I want to

Night ivatch
Blyth residents had a grand time at the Teddy Bear Parade Friday night to celebrate the new
lights in the downtown core. In the foreground are, from left: Reeve Dave Lee, Clerk Helen
Grubb, Councillor Steve Sparling and his wife Laurie. Following the parade, Carol Irwin flicked
the switch officially turning on the new lights, then all gathered in the Memorial Hall courtyard
for a time of fellowship.
They returned by Davenport,
Iowa where they boarded an
historically authentic riverboat on
the Mississippi and enjoyed a little
action on the casino decks with
three of them coming away
winners.
Natasha Haggitt of Zurich, the
granddaughter of Carmen and Ella
Gwynn, participated in the Zurich
Terry Fox Run, Sept. 18.
Six-year-old Natasha captured
third place for pledges, raising
$235.50. She biked the 9.5 kilome

Alvin and Gene Snell visited a
week ago with daughters, Shirley
Johnson and her husband Jack of
London and Audrey Timpany and
her husband Jim of Aylmer.
Feme and Harvey McDowell,
Erma Cook, Phyllis Boak, Janet
Lawrie, and Mary Walden returned
recently from a nine day tour of
Branson, Missouri and Eureka
Springs, Arkansas, called
America's Little Switzerland.
While in Eureka Springs they had
a guided tour including the seven
storey high Christ of the Ozarks,
Passion Play Site. In the evening
they attended the famous two hour
Eureka Springs Passion Play held
in the Ozarks outdoor theatre.
The great Passion Play is
presented by a cast of more than
200 actors, live animals, authentic
Bible costuming, multi-level
staging, the latest in lighting and
sound technology making it a very
inspirational performance.
While at Branson they managed
to lake in six excellent musical
stage shows.
