After receiving a letter from Zubic Scrap Metals regarding the removal of cooling units from the East Wawanosh landfill, council made a temporary decision at the Sept. 7 meeting. Zubic Scrap Metals removes the refrigerators, freezers and air con ditioners from the landfill site, but ’informed council this would be the last time the job would be done with the coolants still in the appli ances. Council agreed to pick up the cost of removing the coolant, at least until next year, so the appli ances would not be dumped in ditches. Councillor Diana Robinson said should could not see anyone will ing to pay $45 (for coolant re moval) to throw away a fridge. All appliances which have had the coolant removed, by a person licensed to do so, will be red tagged. Council approved the purchase of additional land to increase the acreage of the landfill. The 8.95 acres were purchased at a cost of $6,750, including the price of surveying and legal expenses. Council approved a request from the Belgrave Community Centre Board to install a light at the south end of the centre’s parking lot. The dusk-to-dawn light will cost Motocross racing noise concerns neighbours By Jim Brown A moto-cross race held during the Labour Day weekend on the Mungo Bear Ltd. Property on Cone. 6/7 of East Wawanosh Twp. has drawn the ire of some neighbours.. - Concerns about noise and the frequency of the races were brought to township council Aug. 31. After a lengthy, sometimes heated, discussion council decided to let the two sides try to resolve the two main issues - the noise level and the frequency of races - before returning to the next council meeting. He added that the area is zoned agricultural, not recreational. Brian Treble of the Huron County Planning Department said the property, Part Lot 29, Cone. 7, is zoned AG1, which is natural environment. He added that there are certain types of recreation - for own enjoyment - which cannot be regulated by zoning, but there is nothing in the bylaw concerning moto-cross racing.
