For three years, the Brussels
Mennonite Fellowship has hosted a
SELFHELP Craft Sale. This year,
for the first time, the event has been
extended from one day to three.
Organizer Linda Garland says,
"We were hoping that by having
the sale for three days it would pro

having it on a Thursday as well as
Friday and Saturday it will make it
more available to everyone."
SELFHELP has for more than 45

Getting the people to work is not
restricted to Third World females,
Mrs. Garland says. "Some of the
committee travelled to Bangladesh
to see the baskets. There had been a
flood and a man, his wife and five
children were living on the roof of
their home. When asked what could
be done to help the man replied,
'Sell more baskets.'"
Mrs. Garland said that SELF
HELP Crafts offers fair pay, by
cutting out the middleman. Craft
purchases in the past year provided
the equivalent of more than 12,000
full-time jobs.
