School has just begun. This year
there are 225 students attending
BPS. Many are hoping to have a
good year.
We interviewed Clair Mastnak
and Adam Corbett from
kindergarten.
Our first question was, "How do
you like school?"
"Good," responded Clair and
Adam. "The slide is fun to play
on!"
Questioning further, we asked,
"Do you like your teacher?"
"Yes, she is pretty and nice,"
replied Clair.
Next we asked Mrs. Tedesco if
she liked this year's kindergarten
class with Junior and Senior
students in the same group.
"Looks great! It's going to be a
wonderful year," she exclaimed.
We hope they have a terrific first
year.
Mrs. Watson brought in three
monarch chrysalises and showed
them to the school. We asked
Micheal Bernard, Mrs. Watson's
grandson, to answer a few of our
questions. They took the
caterpillars from the milkweed
plant. They had the caterpillars

A request to consider the best use
of the area to the south of the
school to the Ministry of Natural
Resources during the fall began
discussions which involved
enhancing the natural resources
already available to us.
A partnership with the MNR and
the school community was
suggested. A steering committee of
staff, students, community, MNR
as well as the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority was
organized and plans began to be
developed. An application through
CWIP (Canadian Wildlife
Improvement Plan) was ‘successful
and $3,000 became available for
projects. As well, a request for
permission to proceed was granted
by the Huron County Board of
Education.
A site inventory and possible
enhancements were sketched on a
diagram and the committee selected
several enhancements for this year.
A butterfly garden was planted in
the shelter of the bush to the
southwest comer of the school as a
primary division initiative in May.
All the primary students assisted
with planting the area which will
become a resource for lessons in

The highlight of this week's new releases is The Crow ** (C/FP), a dark
and nasty film that features the fmal performance of Brandon Lee, (he was
killed on the set when a prop gun was accidentally loaded with real
bullets). The story is based on James O'Barr's simple minded underground
comic book about a guy who returns from the dead as an invincible
vigilante to avenge the murder of his girlfriend.
Despite some good moments this film is really nothing special and is
notable only for the unfortunate death of its star. (Rated R for extremely
rough language, violence and drugs).
Threesome *** (Columbia/Tristar) is a contemporary, rowdy and
raunchy comedy/drama about three university students (Lara Flynn Boyle,
Stephen Baldwin, Josh Charles) who share much more than a room
together. Parents who are sending kids off to university may want to skip
this film. (Rated R)
In the classic movie department is An Affair To Remember **1/2 (Fox-
$9.95), the Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr weepie that inspired Sleepless in
Seattle *** (Columbia/Tristar - $19.95). Also worth a look is the long
awaited home video debut of / was a Male War Bride *** (Fox- $24.95),
a delightful and very funny wartime comedy that features Cary Grant in
drag for most of the movie's running time. Sharply directed by Howard
Hawkes.
For you musical fans out there who don't have the following Rodgers
and Hemmerstein productions in your collection Fox video has just re-
released them each with an audiotape of the original soundtrack plus, in
some cases, trailers and never-before-seen outtakes.
The Sound of Music is available for $29.95, while The King And I,
Carousel, Oklahoma, South Pacific and State Fair are $24.95.
On a personal note, while Fox is busy repackaging these films yet again,
it would be nice to see them offered also in widescreen version on tape at
reasonable cost instead of just on laserdisc at around $100 each.
Among the new and unpreviewed titles this week are Reckless Kelly
(Warner), a new comedy from Australia starring Vahoo Serious (Young
Einstein). (Rated PG)
Jamie Lee Curtis stars in Mother's Boys (C/FP), a psychological drama
about a mother who returns to the family she abandoned years before.
(Rated R)
Numerous movie subjects are now receiving the CD-ROM treatment.
The Starwave Corporation has announced plans to create an interactive
docu-disk on the life and films of Clint Eastwood. Included will be clips
from more than half of the actor/director's films, sound bites, photos and
some original interviews. (For IBM compatible and Macintosh
computers).
Even Monty Python's Flying Circus has signed on to the CD-ROM
format. With the help of troupe members Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, and
Michael Palin, 7th Level Software has created an "interactive comedy
show". The disk includes video and sound from 45 Python episodes in the
Windows format and will sell for around $60.00.
The hottest kids' show on television is also now available on CD-ROM.
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers disk features five interactive shows
and is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

Grade Five and Six have just
returned from the Steam Festival in
Blyth. It was Kids Day and their
class got in free. Forty-six students
and nine volunteers attended.
"The festival was exciting," said
Mr. Tealls' class. They saw an
antique kitchen, antique tractors,
steam engines, pioneer implements,
and an old combine that worked on
steam. They liked the games the
the future. Bush trails along the
river and through the mature bush
have been blazed and an outside
theatre by the river has been started
for various lessons. Three shallow
ponds have been situated in the
south field and each will develop
through time with different plant
and animal life.
All the areas prepared will be
used as supervised Teaching/
Learning areas and are not part of
the recess yards. The efforts to
utilize the natural educational
opportunities available at this
school site will hopefully provide a
variety of environmental resources
for the school and community for
years to come.
