The Ontario-National finals were to have been held earlier this summer, but rain kept them from draining the field properly. There was a turnout of some 30 people watching the riders execute the track. First barrel races a success For the first time, the provincial finals for the National Barrel Horse Association was held in the Brus­ sels area at CJS Arena and co-pro- prietor Shirley Crane says, "The event went great and I am quite pleased with the participation." The division has been expanded by two teams, Wiarton and Kincar­ dine, which will require more trav­ elling time and expense for the team, says Club President Gerry Wheeler. Cutting expenses is just one of the areas to be looked at when set­ ting the budget. The executive also has a large fundraising project in the works (to increase monies available for the team). The executive is in the process of putting together a community events prize calender. It will con­ tain local events and activities of community groups. Mr. Wheeler says, "Unlike other community calendars, the prizes won with the Bulls' calendar will not be cash, but cheques good for retail produce or service at the advertising businesses, thereby reinvesting the winnings back into the community." "We hope to get as much com­ munity information on the calendar as possible and we would like to have it, in writing, by the middle of September."
