Sunday School classes start for BMF youths Elwin Garland was worship leader at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship on Sunday, Sept. 4. Lloyd Koch was song leader and Christy Pardys was pianist. Pastor Tom Warner preached from Philippians 3:1-16. A Christian education teacher teaches people how to be safe for eternal life. These lessons need to be heard frequently for they are the most , important lessons of life, he said. Sunday School classes were re­ organized for the new school year. Children from Grade 1-7 were presented with Bibles. Teachers for this quarter are Yvonne Dettweiler (Nursery/Kindergarten), Andrea Warner (Grade 1 - 2), Sylvia Cam­ eron (Grade 3-4), Sharon Horst (Grade 5-6), Erla Koch (Girls, Grade 7-8), Arnold Wiegcrsma and Darrin Hemingway (Boys, Grade 7-8), Linda Garland (Grade 9-11), Thelma Steinman (Grade 12 and up), Tom Warner (Faith Explora­ tion Class), Elwin Garland (Adults studying spiritual gifts), Martin Baan and Carl Siemon (Adult Bible Study). Anneke Pardys, Anne Hemingway, Alice Martin, Sharon Demaray, and Pat Pietrek have made commit­ ments for teaching later in the year. Wednesday, Sept. 7 has been set aside for Prayer Evening at the church, and the youth and young adults will have Bible Study at Demarays. The Youth group will have its "Kick Off" for this school year on Saturday evening. Up and ready Village of Brussels employee Don Crawford hangs the official banner for the Terry Fox Run, hosted by the Ark, which is to be held Sept. 18. The banner was donated by Brussels Livestock Inc. Funds for the run go to cancer research. People Kent Bray, son of Jan and Larry Bray, is beginning his post sec­ ondary education at Conestoga Col­ lege. He is enrolled in the General Business program. Dan Hall is attending Sir Sanford Fleming in Peterborough in the Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology Robotics. He is the son of Jane and Jack Hall. Maryanne Perrie, a daughter of John and Mary, is attending Con- stogoa College. She is enrolled in the Electronics and Engineering Technology program. Jason Engel, is also attending Conestoga in his first year of the Mechanical Engineering Technolo­ gy program. Jason is the son of Diane and Barry. Brad Bcuermann enrolled in the first year of the Technological pro­ gram at Georgian College's Barrie campus. Brad is the son of Joan and Neil. Nicki Gropp a daughter of Mark and Bonnie, has relumed to Geor­ gian College for her final year in the Law and Security program. Her brother Jason will be entering his fourth year in ihe Honours His­ tory program al the University of Waterloo, Sept. 12. Sherrie Sweeney of Kitchen brought Jim Payne and Jaimic Garbutl of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia to visit Jamie and Mike Thomas. Located an hour south of Sydney, Wollongong is known for its baseball so a game was put together. Participants were: Greg and Trevor Wilson, Sue Mastnak, Julie, John and Jim Harrison, Mark, Bonnie and Joshua Gropp, Julie and Ross Mitchell, Brian and Jan Deilncr, Dwayne and Tammy Gibson and nephew Darryl Smith, Dan Workman, Christine Smith, Troy Hamilton, Bruce Raymond and Sheila Tcrpslra. The funniest part of the game was when Jaimic Garbutl hit the ball a ton and Jim Payne caught it. Following the game an aerial lour was generously offered by Jim Armstrong through Brian Deilncr. The Australians were thrilled to gel a chance to fly the plane. Quote of the day, "I think I've found my sport," Jaimic Garbutt to Jamie Thomas. Approximately 300 relatives and friends attended the 40th anniversary celebration of Jim and Leona Armstrong on Sunday, Aug. 28. This was the third known 40th anniversary celebration held at the Armstrong farm. Joanne King and Doris McKinley played background music. Donald McDonald from Walton sang the same song he sang 40 years ago Because. Friends and Neighbours and a thank you song, composed by Joanne King were also sung. Robert Armstrong welcomed everyone and offered congratu­ lations on behalf of the family. Jim gave a humorous speech. Everyone enjoyed a beef and pork barbecue provided by Cardiff catering. Guests attended from Boston, Toronto, Sault Ste. Marie, Ottawa, Peterborough, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Waterdown, Goderich, Cornwall, Truro N.S., Welland, Grand Bend, Hensail, Seaforth, Walkerton, Blyth, Listowel, Guelph, Mitchell and Walton. Mrs. Betty Clarke, Toronto attended the 40th anniversary celebration of Jim and Leona Armstrong and spent the following week with them. Marjorie and Ellis McDonald from Sault Ste. Marie spent a few days with Jim and Leona Arm­ strong. Jim and Leona Armstrong hosted the annual Get-Together for the Huron County Past Wardens Association on Aug. 25. Twenty-seven past wardens and spouses enjoyed the Blyth Festival production Bouncing Back and 42 enjoyed a roast beef dinner served by the Country Cooks.
