Ida Evans of Brussels, however, thinks that's the worst thing to do. If you don't keep moving, you won't move," she says. Mrs. Evans is living proof of her argument. Afflicted with arthritis, primarily in her knees and hips, she has undergone two operations to replace her hip joints with plastic ones since 1985. "When I had the first one done, the specialist said it (the arthritis) was in both hips. He advised me to have the operation or Grace, Missionary sermon The congregation at Auburn Missionary Church enjoyed having The King's Messenger's bring several musical numbers on Sunday, Aug. 28. Their singing of The Old Rugged Cross and Then Came the Morning was very uplifting. Sweet Holy Spirit, Can He? Could He? Would He? and He Did Which? were sung a cappella. Pastor Carne's message, "Evi dences of Grace" with scripture from Acts 11: 19-24 with special interest on verse 23 is evidence of the grace of God. Emmanuel means G<xl is with us and some think of God as far off but God has pervaded our world and He is wonderful with us. We have evidence of God's grace by God's presence. The grace of God is demonstrated by our presence in church today, Pastor Came said. God enabled us to believe and if we have responded, it is a miracle. Grace is demonstrated by the Christian's progress. The grace of God transforms people and the evidence is shown in compassion for souls. There is evidence of the grace of God when Christians arc concerned about witnessing and they arc more involved in missions. • Injuries kill more children under the age of 19 than all other causes of dcaLh combined. for certain I was going to be in a wheelchair." The first replacement was a tremendous success, Mrs. Evans says. "I had no pain after the first one and the specialist told me there was no arthritis in that hip." The second one done a few years ago has, however, not been quite so successful. "It's better than it was, I don't have the pain I did have, but there is some discomfort this time." The active 87-year-old takes it all in stride, joking about the mobility she no longer has. Residing on the second floor of an apartment build Susan Dobie has just returned from Cuba where she was working with Christian Network Ministries. The team was involved in various Christian projects and they are rejoicing that one of their interpreters accepted Christ as her personal Saviour. Happy 40th Anniversary Don & Melva on September 4 Love your family, Randy, Lorna, Joe & Kathy; Blair, Deb, Bradley & Angela ing, could pose daunting to some less determined spirits. Mrs. Evans admits she often has to manually pick up her leg to get it started up the first step. "A lot of people ask me how I do it, but what they don't stop and think is that you have to do a lot yourself. You have to make yourself do these things." In addition to being an active member with the local UCW and Majestic Women's Institute, Mrs. Evans without benefit of cane goes for a walk downtown every day. " The more you use a cane the more I think you might come to depend on it. You have to have confidence in yourself, too." May God continue to bless Susan and use her in a wonderful way as she returns to Emmanuel Bible College, Kitchener, in September.
