Procter hosts visitors Mr. and Mrs. Gamer Nicholson visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Ron Nicholson at their cottage at Lions Head. Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Smithson of Downsview visited for a few days last week with her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Procter. Also visiting at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Procter, Belgrave on Sunday was Vietta Martin of Elmira and friends from Wallen­ stein and Elmira. The Rev. Phyllis Boyd of Kispiox Village near Hazelton, B.C. who has been attending the General Council of the United Church in Fergus met Mrs. Irlma Edgar and Mrs. Roger Bieman at the Fergus Community Centre on Sunday, Aug. 28. They all travelled to Belgrave to the WI Hall where 29 cousins were gathered to greet Phyllis, whom they haven't seen for some lime. Phyllis was asked to say grace then all enjoyed a pot luck supper. This was followed by more reminiscing. Relatives were from Hazelton, B.C., Petrolia, London, Kincardine, Wingham, Teeswater, Gorrie, Lucknow, Blyth and Belgrave. Knox Presbyterian Church, Belgrave along with friends from the Knox United and Calvin-Brick Churches attended a farewell service for Rev. Carolyn McAvoy, Sunday, Aug. 28. Mrs. Cathi Cullen, Blyth sang two beautiful solos, Day By Day and Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, accompanied by Mrs. Hazel Dalrymple. Carolyn leaves Thursday for her new charge at St. Paul's Presby­ terian Church, Oshawa, Ontario, after five years at Brussels, Belgrave charge. Belgrave joined Brussels for a social time and presentation at noon. Everyone wished Carolyn a happy future in her new charge. Belgrave Squirt Girls won the A Tri-County South on Aug. 14. The town was ! nominated by the Maitland Valley ■ Conservation Authority (MVCA) ■ under the Municipal category of the I awards. This category recognizes I the innovative environmental I policy, projects or activities of a | municipaluy. Planning of the project began in I 1990 when the town decided to I look for alternatives to restoring the I mill dam at Victoria street, which I washed out in 1983. It was decided | that river valley and flood plain | lands would be restored by planting | trees and shrubs and by making | improvements to fish habitat. In addition, recreational improve- ■ mcnts including a walking trail j were planned for park and along . the river. Work began in the spring of ’ 1992, and is scheduled for ’ completion this fall. Display of 5 muffins, papers removed. 1 cup raisins 1 cup boiling water 3 cups flour 3 eggs 1 cup oil 2 cups sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. soda 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 cup walnuts 1 - 14 oz. can beans Mix raisins with boiling water and stir, set aside. Beat eggs, oil, sugar, vanilla, and beans until beans are broken. Add flour, remaining ingredients including raisins and water. Mix well. Spoon batter into large paper muffin cups.
