‘Deathtrap’ at Playhouse
Coming back
Actors Nancy Beatty, left and Anne Anglin take time for a
coffee break before getting back to work rehearsing for
their roles in the Blyth Festival's third offering of the 1994
season Bouncing Back, which opens July 20. Both actors
have appeared on the Blyth stage many times in the past
and are enjoying being part of its 20th anniversary season.
Actors talk about
‘Bouncing Back’
You are as young as you feel and
Kate refuses to act her age, which
is 80.
In the world premiere of Suzanne
Finlay's Bouncing Back, Kate is
having more fun than her 40ish
daughter, Brenda. Life's lessons are
to be learned by both women and
they are both determined to have
their own way.
A wild, wacky comedy, Bounc
ing Back is the Blyth Festival's
third production of the 1994 sea
son. It features renowned Canadian
actors Anne Anglin as Kate and
Nancy Beatty as Brenda.
Ms Anglin says, "The play is
quite challenging because it is basi
cally carried by two people. Kate
and Brenda must leam to deal with
their own crisis as well as with
each other."
She says, "Although the story is
set in British Columbia, it is a situ
ation which could take place any
where."

"The playwright handles the (ten

it is not a black story of crisis," she

In discussing the development

BOB BADLEY
Gotcha!
Ira Levin’s witty and mind-
boggling murder game, Deathtrap,
is at Huron Country Playhouse
from July 19 to July 30. Mr. Levin
is one of America's most successful
writers of thrillers, whose output
includes The Boys from Brazil,
Rosemary's Baby and Veronica's
Room. Deathtrap, the film based on
the play, was released in 1982
starring Michael Cain as Sydney
Bruhl and Christopher Reeve as
Clifford Anderson.
Murder reigns supreme in this
suspense thriller about a failed
drama writer who thinks he's come
up with a workable plot: doing in
actual people, not on stage but in
his own home.
Don Allison is Sidney Bruhl, the
acid-tongued plotter of murders on
and off the stage. Although his first
time on the HCP stage, Mr. Allison
brings a long list of theatre and
television/film credits. Starring
opposite Mr. Allison is Christopher
Shyer as Clifford Anderson, the
talented student who brings his
potential hit script to the writer. Mr.
Shyer last appeared as Lancelot in
1992's Camelot.
The cast also includes Jill
Frappier as Myra Bruhl, the edgy
wife and unwilling accomplice;
Linda Goranson as the Dutch
psychic Helga ten Dorp, whose
speciality is advising the police on
difficult cases and David Hughes as
Porter Milgrim, the New England
lawyer with a devastating urge to
write mysteries. Ms Frappier is a
