McKillop council settles asphalting controversy
After listening to the concerns
and interests of two groups of resi
dents, McKillop council agreed at
its July 5 meeting, to asphalt two
separate roads in the township.
A controversy first arose when
Sideroad 10/11, north from High
way 8 at St. Columban was select
ed for asphalting under the
federal/provincial government's
infrastructure program.
A group of business owners and
residents from Cone. 12/13 put
together a petition requesting coun
cil to consider the concession for
asphalting because of a 'greater
number of businesses and larger
volume of traffic.'
At the meeting, council decided
to asphalt both roads; a 2.5 km.
stretch on Sideroad 10/11 and 6.25
km. on Cone. 12/13 running from
Huron County Road 12 to the
Huron/Perth boundary.
Road Superintendent Wayne
Dolmaee was authorized to call
tenders for asphalt to close Aug. 2.
The tenders received for work on
Sideroad 5/6, north of Cone 2/3 to
Don Cronin's driveway were
opened and the submission by
Donegan's Haulage Ltd. was
accepted at a cost of $77,737.
The Ministry of Transportation
approved a supplementary subsidy
for the purchase of a grader, com
plete with plow equipment. Ten
ders will be called, to close on Aug.
2.
The Court of Revision for the
Canada Company Municipal Drain
was scheduled for Aug. 2 at 7 p.m.
Tenders for the open and close
work for the drain will be adver
tised as one contract and will close
on Aug. 2.
A borrowing bylaw was passed
to cover the completion of drainage
work on the Canada Company
Municipal Drain, in the amount of
$35,400.
Council agreed to the proposed
repairs to the Bolton Drainage
Works for Grey Township.
A delegation from the Huron
County Library Board attended the
meeting to inform council of the
strategic plan prepared by the
board.
Board member Beth Ross told
council the cost per circulation at
Walton Library is $30.02, the sec
