On behalf of the 1994 graduating
class I would like to welcome the
teachers, parents and other guests
to this special event that we thought
would never come. But look how
far we have all come: all graduating
from Grade 8. It seems like only
yesterday that we first walked into
our kindergarten room.
It all began in 1985 with Mrs.
Hessels waiting for us. We thought
kindergarten was so much fun. "If
this is what school's all about, it'll
be a breeze." This is what we
thought until Grade 1 came along
where Mis. Brydges taught us the
basics. Without those we would
have never made it this far.
These skills were also a great
help as we moved on to Grade 2.
We were happy to see the familiar
face of Mrs. Hessels. By the end of
Grade 2 we were really getting
used to the idea of school.
Next came our Grade 3 class
with Mr. Fisher. He decided to take
the class to his farm for an
overnight camp out. This was our
first overnight trip and we had fun,
although I do remember that a
couple boys sneaked over from
their side of the yard and took some
poles down which were holding up
our tent. Unfortunately, we didn't
discover this until morning and we
still aren't sure who did it. I don't
think Mr. Fisher even knew that,
but I guess he does now.
We were glad to hear that we had
Mr. Fisher again for Grade 4 since
we had so much fun the year
before.
Well, next came Grade 5 with
Mr. Kerr. This was definitely an
education year. I guess it would
have to be since we spent most of
the year reading books, doing math
or listening to Mr. Kerr teach.
(Well, he thought we were
listening).
For those of us who tuned out
now and then, we didn't stay that
way for long, since Mr. Kerr could
always tell if we weren't listening
or if we were talking. We've always
wondered if Mr. Kerr has eyes in
the back of his head. There was no
horsing around in Mr. Kerr's class.
That's probably why we're such a
good class now, right Mr. Kerr?
We got lots of work done that year
but still managed to have a good
time.
Mr. Kerr had us set for our next
year with Ms Thorpe-Hearn. Ms
-Thorpe-Hearn had the bubbly
attitude that none could forget She
could even make math class fun -
now that's a challenge.
The thing I remember most about
her math classes is the way she
Shannon Cook
taught us improper fractions. She
once said "think of them as Dolly
Parton. The top half is bigger than
the bottom half'.
It was a very exciting year to
watch our pregnant teacher slowly
get bigger and bigger.
Ms Thorpe-Hearn was always
there for us not only when we had
trouble in school but when we had
any problems.
Before she left, she sent us off to
Grade 7, and from one teacher to
three - Mrs. Gross, Mr. Fisher and
Mr. Scott. Grade 7 was an
interesting year with three different
teachers each with their own
personalities and different ways of
teaching. Grade 7 was the first year
we were introduced to F. E. Madill.
Once every week our class would
go and attend either Family Studies
or Design and Tech.
Mr. Scott tried hard, to keep us
awake while he taught us our Grade
7 math. He did a great job not only
