THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22,1994. ------5th Annual Rulabafia FesLival______=|| X ' Rutabaga Festival jam- packed with fun The fifth annual Bly th Rutabaga Festival may turn out to be the most entertainment-packed event of the year. The festival committee has lined up several new activities for the weekend of June 24 to 26, as well as retaining some of the old favourites. Participation can begin on Friday evening by becoming involved in the Rutabaga Festival Car Rally. Registration is being held at Hub­ bard’s rutabaga plant and the event runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday will begin with an early bird sale and baking contest. The parade down Queen Street will start the trek at 11 a.m. with the Wingham Canadettes perform­ ing at noon. Other featured entries will be the Mocha Temple Desert Rats, Mocha Scooter Unit, local pipe bands and the Bluewater Shriner’s Fire Brigade. The afternoon will be filled with activities such as a scavenger hunt for those 12 to 15, children's enter­ tainer Jongerbonger, soap box derby, pony rides, kiddies fun track, firemen's barrel fight, live entertainment of the stage from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and a craft show. A new feature this year will be a psychic fair which will offer pro­ fessional readings from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Buskers will be located along the main street to amuse the wanderers. Scrimgeours will hold a fundrais­ ing barbecue and the Ladies Auxil­ iary will offer a wide selection of rutabaga goodies at their food booth. Throughout the day and in the days leading up to the festival, tick­ ets will be sold for a chance on a ride in a hot air balloon. The lucky winner will be launched at 6:30 p.m. A ball game between the CKNX Try Hards and the Blyth Lions Optimists, Legion and fire depart­ ment will be the featured event at 4 p.m. Once again the Bluewater Shriner’s Club will please the palate with a fish fry from 5p.m. to 7 p.m. A fun-filled Saturday can be ended by enjoying a little western­ style dancing al the community centre from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. For the early risers on Sunday Radfords will be hosting a fishing derby at the pond just south of Blyth on Highway 4, from 10 a.m. until noon. The afternoon will be filled with the music of New Perception, a Christian rock group, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the community centre and the Christian Puppeteers will perform just prior to the concert. For those looking for a fun week­ end activity for the entire family, the Blyth Fifth Annual Rutabaga Festival may just be the place to be.
