Doreen Carter and daughter Colleen spent a week on a bus trip to Branson, Missouri, where they were able to enjoy several shows including the Soji Tabuchi theatre. Doreen was picked from the audience to go on stage for a musical number. Quite an experience. They also visited the fantastic caverns and Silver Dollar City. It was an very enjoyable trip. AuburnThe news from Compiled by Mildred Lawlor Phone 526-7589 WI hears of thalidomide The June meeting of the Auburn Women's Institute was held at the Community Hall on Thursday, June 16 with a dessert luncheon at 1 p.m. Sixteen members and two guests were present. The hostesses were Bernice Anderson and Marjorie McDougall and the executive was in charge of the program. Bernice had a contest which was won by Barbara. Marjorie had a contest and Eppie Lawrence won. President Jean Plaetzer wel­ comed all ahd called on Evelyn Flett, to introduce Sandra Wester- hout, who gave an interesting talk on her trip to Jordan. She described the clothes they wore there and customs. She showed a camel that was carved of olive wood, and passed a photo book around of the pictures they had taken while there. Jean thanked her. Evelyn Flett gave the report of the morning session of the District Annual held at Belgrave and Marion Haggitt gave the report of the afternoon session. Maureen Bean gave a talk on Thalidomide's return - its problems, that it is still being used and safe and unsafe pills. She gave a reading on Brazil 33 years ago where so many deformed, Thalidomide babies were bom. The minutes were read by Marion Haggitt as well as the treasurer's report. Several donations have been given to different organizations. Kay Lapp spoke on the Grand Bend Theatre where Institute members will be attending the play Not Now Darling on Wednesday, Aug 5. Those interested are to let her know by July 5. The Institute is to cater to the Lion’s Club dinner Tuesday, June 28 at 6:30 p.m. Marion Haggitt had a contest of towns and villages in the area and Marjorie McDougall was winner. Roll call was to tell or demon­ strate an exercise pertaining to age. The meeting closed with the singing of the Queen with Marjorie McDougall as pianist. Hulleys greet at Londesboro United Church Greeters at Londesboro United Church Sunday, June 19 were Betty and Ken Hui ley. Flowers on the memorial stand were placed in memory of Norman Cartwright by his wife Florence and family. The baptism service was held. Those baptized were Adreas Christoph Bolinger, son of Gottard and Elisabeth Bolinger and Jason Allan Young, son of Allan and Brenda Young. Holy Communion was held. The sermon topic was "Troublesome Words." People Get well wishes go out to Harry Arthur and John Verwey who have been in the hospital. Graduation Dawn Engel, daughter of Barry & Diane graduated on June 16, 1994 from Early Childhood Education, Fanshawe College, London. Congratulations Dawn! Love, your family. Graduation Charlotte Worsell sings solo Rev. Paul Ross led the Holy Communion service at Knox United Church and Bernice Gross was organist. Invitation to worship was read alternately. Rev. Ross gave the prayers. Father of the Human Family was sung. Charlotte Worsell sang a solo Pass It On, accompanied by Bernice Gross. It was enjoyed by all. The children's story was told and the children's chorus sung. Rev. Ross's meditation was "Troublesome Words". The celebration of Holy Communion was then received. The offering was received by Harold McClinchey and Greg Park and dedicated in song. Hymn We are One In the Spirit was sung. Rev. Ross gave the Benediction and the Amen's concluded the service. Graduation MARILYN MAYBERRY Marilyn Mayberry graduated on June 18 from Conestoga College of Applied Arts & Technology, Kltchner, Ont. with a diploma in Business Administration - Materials Management. Marilyn is currently employed with Allen - Bradley, Cambridge, Ont. as a Materials Planner. Way to go Marilyn! Love & Congratulations from your family. Scott Cronin, son of Tom and Cheryl Cronin, Blyth, graduated on June 18 from Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology with a Diploma In Business Administration - Management Studies. Scott was the recipient of the Sowa Company Ltd. Award, the Boehmers Ltd. Award, the Management Studies Advisory Committee Award and the Canadian Institute of Management Award (second and third year). Scott Is presently employed in the computer processing department of MacKinnon Transport Ltd., Guelph. Congratulations on your achievements Scott, from family and friends. Graduation Dianne Kennaley, daughter of Jack and Jane Hall graduated on May 28 from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Honours Psychology. Congratulations Dianne! Graduation Sherry Lynn (Plaetzer) Foran received her Master of Science of Nursing degree in the convocation ceremony held at the University of Western Ontario on June 10,1994. Her parents Lawrence and Jean Plaetzer, sister Wanda Holllng, brother Larry Plaetzer and husband Terry Foran were In attendance. Sherry is the mother of Allison, Elise, Kaleigh and Ryan. She has previously nursed in both hospital and community settings and has accepted a position as an Assistant Professor .of Nursing at the University of Western Ontario. Congratulations Sherry!
