Brussels PS news School opens time capsule By Jason Kellington and Jeremy Clark The girls from Grade 8 have started to paint two murals at the west end of the school. They are painting the cover of Beauty and the Beast and different kinds of dinosaurs. They have done a wonderful job. Recently, the school photographer was at our school and took a group photo of the entire staff and student body from the roof. For $9 you can receive an 8 x 10 photo of this fantastic group of people. On Tuesday, June 14 the two pitch teams went to Turnberry Central School for their tournament. The girls team coached by Mrs. Perrie went undefeated and the boys team, under Mr. Teall's guidance, won three games and only lost two. On Thursday, June 16 Mrs. Johnson's piano students performed in the gym, in front of the whole school. They played a variety of solos and ducts to demonstrate their skills. Last Friday the 1994 students opened the time capsule from 1988. This year some of the Grade 8 pupils are making another time capsule for the students of the year 2000 of Brussels Public School. It will contain pictures stories and a video as well as some items from 1988. On the job Two new faces join the staff at the BMG Pool this year. In addition to Head Lifeguard, Kim Fritz, (standing) Senior Lifeguard/lnstructor Nicki Gropp, Lifeguard/lnstructor Jay Hahn and Assistant Head Lifeguard Corrinna Stephenson, (seated on board from left to right), Heather Blake, left front and Sheri Huether are on the job. This past week the staff was quite busy as kids and adults turned out in droves to try and beat the heat.In addition to public swimming the pool also offers special programs, such as Moms, Pops and Tots and Adult Swim. Lodge meets The regular meeting of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge, Brussels took place on June 14 with Noble Grand Lois McCutcheon presiding. There was a good attendance of members. The charter of the Lodge was draped in loving memory of Margaret McCutcheon, who passed away on June 1. It was reported that Joan Stephenson is a patient in University Hospital, London and members were happy to hear that Barb McCutcheon is able to come home for a weekend. The annual church service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 26 at Brussels United Church with lunch in the Lodge rooms and Memorial service at the cemetery at 2 p.m. The next regular meeting will be held on June 28. Brussels People Brussels merchants plan sidewalk sale It may not be the FunFest of old but the second weekend in July -still promises to have plenty of activity in Brussels. Three mainstays of the former summer celebration, the Brussels Bulls slow pitch tournament, the Mennonite Gospel concert and the Lions Duck Race, are still being held. The Ark is also planning some activities for the Saturday. Last week Brussels merchants held a brainstorming session at the Brussels Country Inn to come up with a co-operative venture of their own. A decision was reached to have a mammoth Friday night and Saturday sidewalk sale, with the plan being finalized this Thursday. Spokesperson Julie Mitchell said that anyone with ideas and input, who wants to be part of this ambi­ tious community event, is invited to attend a meeting, June 23 at 11 a.m. at the Golden Lantern. Friendship Club meets Many friends and relatives attended the Brussels United Church on Sunday for communion and the confirmation of 9 young people. Josh, son of Neil and Joan Beuerman; Corey, son of Laurie and Debbie Campbell; Amy and Jason, children of Don and Beth Crawford; Katie, daughter of John and Julie Harrison; Jason, son of Murray and Stephanie Kellington; Steve, son of Dale and Ruth Machan; Christa, daughter of Christine Smith; Shane, son of Greg and Sue Wilson, were welcomed into the membership. Kathy Workman, clerk of session, presented each with a bible. A reception followed and all were served cake and punch. thanks So .AAuch! Secretary and treasurer's reports were read and adopted. Invitations were read for the 15th annual meeting of the Wingham Day Centre on Monday, June 27 at 3 p.m. 'and the Community Life Style Fair - Health Wealth and Leisure on June 21 al Clinton Arena from 2 - 8:30 p.m. There will be no September meeting as it coincides with the Fall Fair. The next meeting will be held Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. with the executive providing the lunch.
