School opens time capsule
By Jason Kellington and
Jeremy Clark
The girls from Grade 8 have
started to paint two murals at the
west end of the school. They are
painting the cover of Beauty and
the Beast and different kinds of
dinosaurs.
They have done a wonderful job.
Recently, the school
photographer was at our school and
took a group photo of the entire
staff and student body from the
roof. For $9 you can receive an 8 x
10 photo of this fantastic group of
people.
On Tuesday, June 14 the two
pitch teams went to Turnberry
Central School for their
tournament. The girls team coached
by Mrs. Perrie went undefeated and
the boys team, under Mr. Teall's
guidance, won three games and
only lost two.
On Thursday, June 16 Mrs.
Johnson's piano students performed
in the gym, in front of the whole
school. They played a variety of
solos and ducts to demonstrate their
skills.
Last Friday the 1994 students
opened the time capsule from 1988.
This year some of the Grade 8
pupils are making another time
capsule for the students of the year
2000 of Brussels Public School. It
will contain pictures stories and a
video as well as some items from
1988.
On the job
Two new faces join the staff at the BMG Pool this year. In

was quite busy as kids and adults turned out in droves to
try and beat the heat.In addition to public swimming the
pool also offers special programs, such as Moms, Pops
and Tots and Adult Swim.
Lodge meets
The regular meeting of Morning
Star Rebekah Lodge, Brussels took
place on June 14 with Noble Grand
Lois McCutcheon presiding. There
was a good attendance of members.
The charter of the Lodge was
draped in loving memory of
Margaret McCutcheon, who passed
away on June 1. It was reported
that Joan Stephenson is a patient in
University Hospital, London and
members were happy to hear that
Barb McCutcheon is able to come
home for a weekend.
The annual church service will be
held at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 26 at
Brussels United Church with lunch
in the Lodge rooms and Memorial
service at the cemetery at 2 p.m.
The next regular meeting will be
held on June 28.

plan sidewalk sale
It may not be the FunFest of old
but the second weekend in July -still
promises to have plenty of activity
in Brussels.
Three mainstays of the former
summer celebration, the Brussels

Mennonite Gospel concert and the
Lions Duck Race, are still being
held. The Ark is also planning
some activities for the Saturday.
Last week Brussels merchants
held a brainstorming session at the
Brussels Country Inn to come up
with a co-operative venture of their
own. A decision was reached to
have a mammoth Friday night and
Saturday sidewalk sale, with the
plan being finalized this Thursday.
Spokesperson Julie Mitchell said
that anyone with ideas and input,
who wants to be part of this ambi
