Heart & Stroke canvass, a success
During February, more than 700
canvassers went door-to-door
collecting donations from residents
throughout Huron County. "Our
volunteer force worked extra hard
this year," says Greg Williams,
(Person-To-Person Chair). "Even
though we experienced one of the
coldest Februarys ever, residents
reached into their hearts and gave
to a worthy cause.
While all the funds collected
during February have not come in,
indications are that the drive will
reach almost $60,000.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation
of Ontario is a community-based
volunteer organization whose
mission is to reduce the risk of
premature death and disability from
heart disease and stroke by raising
funds for research and health
promotion. Despite the progress
made over the past 40 years, heart
disease and stroke still remain
Canada's number one killer.
The Huron Chapter appreciates
the efforts of every canvasser as
well as the multitude of volunteers
who work throughout the year in all
areas of the Foundation. Their
diligence and hard work are greatly
appreciated.

communities along Lake Huron, as
far north as Southampton and into
the Bruce Peninsula, "Minister
Swarbrick said. "Travellers will be
encouraged to prolong their stays in
the area and this will have a
beneficial impact on local and
regional businesses.
"This initiative also fits perfectly
with the recommendations to the
Minister, of the recent Ontario
tourism industry's report, which
outlines a plan to revitalize the
industry. We want to make
strategic investments in a number
of priority areas such as human
resources training, culture and
marketing that will equip the
tourism industry for sustained
growth.
