celebrate the organization's first anniversary at the
Brussels United Church last Thursday. Helping director Pat

Playhouse hosts tourism event
On Thursday, April 14, the
Huron Country Playhouse will be
hosting the Huron Tourism
Association's 5th Annual Tourism
Event and Brochure Swap.
This afternoon and evening event
will be featuring professional
seminars on "What Americans and
Other Travelers Want", "Services
for Small Businesses and
Telephone Etiquette", "Low Cost
Marketing on a Shoe String
Budget", "Customer Service" and
"Our Path - Networking and Team
Building". As with other years, a
major component of the day will be
the Brochure Swap, which provides
registrants with the opportunity to
distribute their promotional
literature to all the other businesses
and promoters of Huron County.
Brand new this year is the 1994
Huron County Travel Guide, listing
attractions, theatres, museums, golf
courses, marinas, public beaches,
cross country ski and snowmobile
trails, accommodations, camp
grounds, restaurants, bed and
breakfasts, artisans and art studios,
conservation areas, antique and
specialty shops and special events.
Also available are brochures for
fishing, cycling routes, the
Maitland Trail and farm fresh
produce.
Tourism development is essential
to the growth and survival of the
Huron County economy. It
represents the second largest
economic generator, second only to
agriculture.
The mandate of the Huron
Tourism Association is to develop
and target cost-effective and result-
oriented tourism strategies within
Huron County. Being a
membership-based action
organization and not just another
interest committee, members have
an equal input into association
business and can voice their ideas
and concerns at monthly meetings.
These meetings are held the first
Thursday of every month at various
members’ establishments.
The registration fee for the 5th
Annual Tourism Event and
Brochure Swap is $20; this
includes the seminars, table space
for registrants' displays and
brochures, refreshments, a catered
supper and live entertainment.
Registration is preferred before
April 5.
If you have not already received
an invitation brochure to this
exciting event, or would like
additional information on either
this event or the Huron Tourism
Association, contact either Cindy
Fisher or Mike Pullen at the Huron
County Planning and Development
Department (519) 524-2188.
The Maitland Conservation
Foundation is sponsoring its sixth
annual fundraising dinner and
auction. A roast beef dinner, live
and silent auctions, raffles, and
entertainment will all be part of the
evening. The event will be held
Friday, April 22, at the Brussels,
Morris and Grey Community
Centre in Brussels.
Proceeds from the dinner will
support environmental education
activities at the Wawanosh Nature
Centre. Tickets are available by
calling 335-3557.
"We're hoping to make this our
best dinner and auction yet," noted
Vince Judge, Chairman of the
Maitland Conservation Foundation.
"Foundation directors will be
asking individuals and businesses
to support the Nature Centre by
attending the dinner and by
donating items for the auction and
raffle."
Over 250 people attended last
year's dinner. Local businesses and
individuals donated about 150
