McKillop council to re-examine asphalting project Money made available to the municipalities through the federal government's infrastructure pro­ gram, has caused a controversy in McKillop township. Council decided at the Feb. 1 meeting to use the funds to asphalt Sideroad 10/11, north of Highway 8. A delegation of 14 taxpayers attended the March 1 meeting ask­ ing council to reconsider their deci­ sion. Peter Raithby, spokesperson for the group, asked council to consid­ er the asphalting of Cone. 12/13 KEVIN JOHNSTON Kevin Johnston of RR2, Bluevale passed away as the result of a snowmobile accident on Saturday, March 12, 1994. He was in his 31st year. Mr. Johnston was the loving son of Leona and John Johnston of Bluevale and the brother of Karen and Jeff Smith of Bluevale. He was the dear grandson of Margaret Stewart of Ripley. He was the beloved uncle of two nieces Jolan- da and Jenelle Smith and a very dear friend of Jennifer Moore of Molesworth. Mr. Johnston rested at Betts Funeral Home, Brussels from 6-9 p.m. Monday. Funeral services were held there the following after­ noon at 2 p.m. Rev. Paul Chambers was the officiating clergy. Pallbearers were Brad Campbell, Jeff Smith, Tom Black, Bruce Hig­ gins, Shawn McGinnis and Rob Black. Carrying floral tributes were Roger Kamrath and Mark Dustow. He requested traffic be measured by a counter. Mr. Raithby also presented coun­ cil with 19 letters of concern from the residents of Cone. 12/13. There will be further discussion by council on the matter. Road Superintendent Wayne Dolmage was authorized by council to call tenders for 28,000 imperial tons of gravel for road maintenance and 35 imperial tons of calcium chloride. He will also advertise for a per­ son to weigh gravel for resurfacing. HPRCSSB retains all trustees In conjunction with the Huron County Board of Education, the Huron-Perth Roman Catholic Sec­ ondary School Board agreed, at the Feb. 28 meeting, to seek approval from the Minister of Education for a modified school year calendar. The collective agreement with the Huron-Perth OECTA Elemen­ tary Unit will be closed until Aug. 31, 1996. ♦♦♦ The board decided not to pay for the medical examinations of its drivers. ♦♦♦ A transfer from Schedule 1 to Schedule 2 Workers' Compensation Board effective January 1993 was approved by the board, subject to the final report from WCB. The road accounts were approved for payment in the amount of $19,860.11. * Gregory Beuermann advised council of problems with his closed rectangular manure tank, measuring 48 ft. by 50 ft. by 12 ft. The tank, located on Lot 7, Cone. 8, has a crack in the southwest wall which causes it to lean into the tank by approximately four inches. Council filed the letter received from Mr. Beuermann's engineer. A residential lot severance for Plan 254, Lot 2 in Tuckersmith Twp., owned by Matt Haney and Bert Vandendool, was approved by council. Approval was given for the rezoning of West Part Lot 4, East Part Lot 5, Cone. 9. The rezoning allowed for a decrease in the side yard requirement. Two tile drainage loan applica­ tions from Neil Murray and Glenda Murray were accepted by council. The applications were for Lot 6, Cone. 2, $6,700, and Lot 7, Cone. 3, $7,500. The board will join the School Boards' Workers' Compensation Co-operative and will continue to set aside the current allocation for WCB to establish an internal reserve. ♦♦♦ The trustees agreed to maintain the present number of trustees for the 1994 election. ♦♦♦ Martha Van Dieten was hired as a teacher assistant, effective March 2. Three cash scholarships totalling $240, were approved for the Kiwa- nis Music Festival of Stratford. ♦♦♦ Congratulations will be sent to Dan Bishop and Rob DiDiomete for their contributions to girls bas­ ketball. Ron Murray was appointed to the Court of Revision on the D Drain of the Regcle Municipal Drain. Requests for support from the Blyth Festival and the Hensall South Huron Agricultural Society were granted in the amounts of $125 and $20 respectively.
