the Oshawa end. This was one of the rare times the puck was in the Seaforth zone when the
two teams met in a consolation semi-final match for the Optimists Atom Tournament B
division title. Seaforth trounced the long-distance competitors by 8-0, then went on to defeat
Goderich 5-2 for the trophy while Walkerton claimed the championship title with a 4-3 victory
over Bracebridge. This was the final weekend of the annual two-weekend tournament.
Blyth Tykes capture 2 wins
The Blyth Tyke team elevated its
calibre of play successfully
competing in the Clinton Tyke
Tournament.
The opening game for Blyth was
Thursday, March 10 against the
strong Goderich Garb and Gear
team. Blyth rose to the competition,
and did not succumb to the
pressure, especially as they dealt
with the introduction , and
frustration associated with off
sides. All players worked as a team
and put forth their best effort, to
come up with a tie at the end of
regulation time, and a win after a
period of overtime.
Bly th Novices lose 3-2
The Blyth Novice team competed
in the Teeswater Tournament on
Saturday, March 12. The opening
game pitted Blyth against Ripley.
Ripley opened the scoring late in
the first period, then kept the
second period point-free. Finally,
half-way through the third, Blyth
got on the gamesheet, with a goal
by Robbie Archambault, assisted
by Shaun Henry and Neil Salverda.
Ripley responded with two goals.
Blyth's only other goal came after a
long shot by Nick Courtney was

Blyth Midgets earn 9-1 win
By Rusty Blades
The Blyth Midgets kicked off
their March break last weekend as
they travelled to the shores of Lake
Erie to participate in the Port
Stanley Kanagio Midget tourna
ment. When the ice chips had
settled they had won their round
robin grouping and advanced to the
Tournament Final which will be
played on March 19.
In game one of the round robin
Blyth tangled with an out-classed
St. Marys II team and they crushed
the Stonetowners 9-1. The scoring
was spread evenly between Blyth's
two lines as each line recorded four
goals and four assists.
Blyth built 4-0 and 7-0 period
leads on their way to victory. Mike
Heffron earned Player of the Game
honours as he recorded the hat
trick. Brian McNichol assisted on
all three of Heffron's markers and
also chipped in with a goal of his
own, which was assisted by
Christopher Howson.
The line of Jason Heipel, Ryan
Chamney and Ben Hakkers kept
pace as both Heipel and Chamney
recorded two goals each with
Chamney also chipping in with a
pair of assists and Heipel and
Tyler Kemighan netted Blyth's
first goal, and teammate Justin
Peters put in the tying goal. In the
six minute, total-goal extra period,
Peters recorded his second point
after sending a precise wrist shot
into the far corner, beyond the
goalie's reach. Michelle Cook
poked in the insurance goal, after
receiving a perfect transfer from
Sandy Hay, who had re-directed
Luke Anderson's pass. Blyth's
goalie, Brett Bean stopped every
shot in the overtime period, to keep
Goderich scoreless.
Blyth's second game was played
on Saturday, March 12, against the
Stewart. Ripley won 3-2.
Blyth's second game was a heart
breaker, lost after counting shots
taken during a five minute total
goal overtime period against
Belmore. The score was tied - two
apiece - after regulation time. Kirk
Stewart and Justin Rinn had goals
for Blyth. During the overtime
shift, neither team scored, so the
direct shots on net were counted for
both teams, and Belmore won the
game with their one shot.
This loss put Blyth out of the
tournament.

this past week.
The two teams met for the first
game on March 5 in Stephen and
despite a great team effort, the
home team skated away with a 3-1
victory. Aaron Bakker had a good
showing in net. Kevin Hopf scored
the lone Belgrave goal.
Stephen visited Belgrave on
March 9 and in a game that could
have gone either way, Stephen
came out on top with a narrow 3-2
victory. Both Belgrave goals were
scored by Justin Campbell, while
assists were credited to Tyler Fen
ton, Hopf and Tom Mullin.
The visiting team managed to

just seconds after Belgrave lied it at

best of three series.

team play bonded the players, for
their second victory.
Anderson opened the scoring,
with assists granted to Cook and
Hay. Kernighan jammed in goal
two, unassisted. The next three
goals belonged to Peters, who
demonstrated outstanding offensive
and defensive manoeuvers to
achieve the hat trick. Tammy Root

Houseleague hosted Zurich for the
first game of their second round of
playoffs. Fans were treated to an
exciting nailbiter as Blyth defeated
Zurich by a score of 4-3. Goals for
Blyth were scored by Matt
Anderson and Michael Lyons.
Ryan Lee, battling the Zurich
team and the 'flu-bug' came up with
