VILLAGE OF BRUSSELS Going by Seaforth's number 18 shoots the pucks off the boards to get it by the Oshawa player and into the Oshawa end. This was one of the rare times the puck was in the Seaforth zone when the two teams met in a consolation semi-final match for the Optimists Atom Tournament B division title. Seaforth trounced the long-distance competitors by 8-0, then went on to defeat Goderich 5-2 for the trophy while Walkerton claimed the championship title with a 4-3 victory over Bracebridge. This was the final weekend of the annual two-weekend tournament. Blyth Tykes capture 2 wins The Blyth Tyke team elevated its calibre of play successfully competing in the Clinton Tyke Tournament. The opening game for Blyth was Thursday, March 10 against the strong Goderich Garb and Gear team. Blyth rose to the competition, and did not succumb to the pressure, especially as they dealt with the introduction , and frustration associated with off­ sides. All players worked as a team and put forth their best effort, to come up with a tie at the end of regulation time, and a win after a period of overtime. Bly th Novices lose 3-2 The Blyth Novice team competed in the Teeswater Tournament on Saturday, March 12. The opening game pitted Blyth against Ripley. Ripley opened the scoring late in the first period, then kept the second period point-free. Finally, half-way through the third, Blyth got on the gamesheet, with a goal by Robbie Archambault, assisted by Shaun Henry and Neil Salverda. Ripley responded with two goals. Blyth's only other goal came after a long shot by Nick Courtney was tipped by Cole Stewart to Kirk Blyth Midgets earn 9-1 win By Rusty Blades The Blyth Midgets kicked off their March break last weekend as they travelled to the shores of Lake Erie to participate in the Port Stanley Kanagio Midget tourna­ ment. When the ice chips had settled they had won their round robin grouping and advanced to the Tournament Final which will be played on March 19. In game one of the round robin Blyth tangled with an out-classed St. Marys II team and they crushed the Stonetowners 9-1. The scoring was spread evenly between Blyth's two lines as each line recorded four goals and four assists. Blyth built 4-0 and 7-0 period leads on their way to victory. Mike Heffron earned Player of the Game honours as he recorded the hat trick. Brian McNichol assisted on all three of Heffron's markers and also chipped in with a goal of his own, which was assisted by Christopher Howson. The line of Jason Heipel, Ryan Chamney and Ben Hakkers kept pace as both Heipel and Chamney recorded two goals each with Chamney also chipping in with a pair of assists and Heipel and Tyler Kemighan netted Blyth's first goal, and teammate Justin Peters put in the tying goal. In the six minute, total-goal extra period, Peters recorded his second point after sending a precise wrist shot into the far corner, beyond the goalie's reach. Michelle Cook poked in the insurance goal, after receiving a perfect transfer from Sandy Hay, who had re-directed Luke Anderson's pass. Blyth's goalie, Brett Bean stopped every shot in the overtime period, to keep Goderich scoreless. Blyth's second game was played on Saturday, March 12, against the Stewart. Ripley won 3-2. Blyth's second game was a heart­ breaker, lost after counting shots taken during a five minute total­ goal overtime period against Belmore. The score was tied - two apiece - after regulation time. Kirk Stewart and Justin Rinn had goals for Blyth. During the overtime shift, neither team scored, so the direct shots on net were counted for both teams, and Belmore won the game with their one shot. This loss put Blyth out of the tournament. Hakkers adding single helpers. The two teams met for the first game on March 5 in Stephen and despite a great team effort, the home team skated away with a 3-1 victory. Aaron Bakker had a good showing in net. Kevin Hopf scored the lone Belgrave goal. Stephen visited Belgrave on March 9 and in a game that could have gone either way, Stephen came out on top with a narrow 3-2 victory. Both Belgrave goals were scored by Justin Campbell, while assists were credited to Tyler Fen­ ton, Hopf and Tom Mullin. The visiting team managed to nudge one past Travis Campbell, just seconds after Belgrave lied it at two all in the third, to claim the best of three series. host team, Clinton. Tammy Root Continued on page 11 Atoms win On March 5, Blyth Atom Houseleague hosted Zurich for the first game of their second round of playoffs. Fans were treated to an exciting nailbiter as Blyth defeated Zurich by a score of 4-3. Goals for Blyth were scored by Matt Anderson and Michael Lyons. Ryan Lee, battling the Zurich team and the 'flu-bug' came up with some big saves to hold Blyth in the game. By-law #5-1994 changes the zoning on Part of Lot 1, Concession 9, formerly In the Township of Grey now In the Village of Brussels, from FD (Future Development Zone) to M1 (Light Industrial Zone). The property In question is part of the former rail lands of the Village of Brussels which have recently been purchased by the Village. Brussels Agromart is proposing to purchase the land, subject to this application for rezoning, to be used In conjunction with their existing industrial operation. The location of the affected lands is shown on Schedule "A" attached. The location map identifies the lands within the Village. This by-law amends zoning by-law 16-1987. 2. Key Map showing the location of the lands to which the by-law apply are shown on the following pages entitled Schedule A. 75 100 —1 METRES The Durham Thundercats offi­ cially eliminated the Brussels Crusaders from WOAA Senior play with an 8-3 home ice victory Friday night. The win gives Durham the best of seven series in five games while the loss brings an end to a successful return of Senior Hockey to Ontario's prettiest village. Dean Wheeler, Ron Strome and Brian Campbell scored for Brussels, who led 2-1 after 20 minutes but trailed 6-3 heading into final period action. Durham now meets Lakeshore for the WOAA Senior A Championship. The Winterhawks eliminated Tavistock in four straight games.
