The competitors were made up of both the experienced and once-a-year curler but, all enjoyed the day's event. Legion speak-off, March 2 By Sandra Josling The Brussels Legion will be hearing the public speakers that have advanced from the Brussels Public School and Grey Central Mennonite youth play volleyhall Pastor Tom Warner preached on "Prayer" on Sunday, Feb. 27, at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship. Andrea Warner read a monologue in which the importance of being there for each other was emphasized. Thys de Jong and Lucy Hesse were in charge of the congregational singing. Brussels Mennonite was in charge of the service at Huronlea Sunday afternoon. The congregation gathered again at the church for a supper after which the film, "The Radical" was shown. It served as an introduction to the upcoming adult Sunday School Classes in which aspects of the Mennonite faith will be the focus. At noon on Sunday, the Grade 5 Sunday School class and families enjoyed a spaghetti lunch with guests, Dave and Mary Lou Klassen and daughters. The Klassen family has spent the last four years in Nigeria where Dave was working as a technician in the mission field, helping plan and construct dams to improve the water supply to various areas. During the Christian Education Hour the Klassens showed slides and talked to the larger group about their stay in Nigeria. The Klassens taught the children some African songs and games they learned. They have just recently come to the area and will be settling in Kitchener in the near future. On Saturday, the Senior Youth participated in a volleyball tournament at Waterloo Oxford High School in Baden. Both the Senior and Junior Youth joined in the Community Christian Youth skating party at Blyth in the evening. Public School this Wednesday. Speeches will begin at 8 p.m. All family and friends are invited to listen and support the speakers. Two winners will advance to zone finals in Seaforth on March 5, one from the Grades 4/5/6 group and one from the Grades 7/8 group. On Sunday, Feb. 20, Zone Youth Darts was held at the Branch. Many advanced to the District Youth Darts in Palmerston to be held in March. Winning in the Junior Division were: Jeff Elliott, second, doubles; Chris Burkholder, fourth, singles, second doubles; Tom Haig and Bill Vanbeek, fourth, doubles; Joel Desjardines, second, singles, third, doubles; Robbie Burkholder, third, doubles; Mike Seili, first, doubles. Tyke division winners were: Mark Kroll, third, singles; Dale Martin, second, singles; Katie Harrison, fourth, singles; Elizabeth Ross, third, doubles; Cassie Cochrane, third, doubles; Amy Ross, fourth, doubles; Nicole Lowe, second, singles; Anita Little, first, singles, first, doubles; Leslie Elliott, fourth, singles, first, doubles. Results of blind draw mixed darts held on Feb. 15 are as follows: Linda Bird and Bill Nethery, first; Lawrence Machan and Kitty Rutledge, second; high shooters, Sandra Josling (120) and Lawrence Machan (132). Feb. 22 results were: Marlene Little and Lawrence Machan, first; Kitty Rutledge and Glen Campbell, second; high shooters, Kathy VILLAGE OF BRUSSELS INTERIM TAXES DUE The interim tax installment for the Village of Brussels Is due on Monday, March 7, 1994. Interest at 1 1/4% per month will be charged the day following the due date. Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve a taxpayer from responsibility for payment of taxes, nor from penalty for late payment. Donna M. The next euchre night is Wednesday, March 2 at 7:45 p.m. Brussels People Brussels Community Dining met on Thursday, Feb. 10 with 25 people in attendance. Valentine descriptions gave a warm and loving atmosphere for those enjoying the delicious roast beef dinner prepared by the cook, Millie. Individual candies and valentines decorated the tables. Wendy and Ruth led as the grace "Johnny Appleseed" was sung. Door prizes were won by Margaret Bernard, Ella Stone, Eva Keffer and Edna Evers. The 50-50 draw prize was won by Sandra Clark. A reading entitled "The Forever Valentine" was given. Announcements were given by Joan Stamper including the next meeting date, Feb. 24 with Shirley Wheeler leading us in crafts. Games and cards will also be available. A time of conversation followed as all enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbours. Morning Star hosts euchre The regular meeting of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge, Brussels took place on Feb. 22 with Noble Grand Lois McCutcheon presiding. It was decided to hold the annual St. Patrick's Day, hot casserole supper and euchre party on Monday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the lodge rooms. The United Nations speakoff sponsored by Rebekah and Odd Fellows of Ontario annually will be held for this District at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton on Friday, March 4. The winner receives an all expense paid trip to New York City and the United Nations Assembly. The next regular meeting will be held on March 8. There were 10 tables at play at the euchre party sponsored by Morning Star Rebekah Lodge on Feb. 21 in the Lodge rooms. Winners were: high lady, Brenda Perrie; low lady, Clara Haig; high man, Betty McDonald (playing as a man); low man, Emerson Mitchell; most lone hands, Keith Turnbull; most zeros, Ruth Johnston; travelling lone hands, Sarah Stephenson.
