The Citizen, 1994-02-23, Page 29bituaries DOUGLAS ALAN BRIGHAM Douglas Alan Brigham of Samia died on Feb. 18, 1994 at St. Joseph’s Extendicare Centre. Bom in Wingham 39 years ago Mr. Brigham was the beloved son of Charles Brigham and his wife Dian of Stratford and Betty Brigham of London. He was the dear brother of James Tracey and Paul McArter McArters live in Brussels MCARTER-MCWHIRTER Paul Richard McArter and Tracey Lynn McWhirter were mar­ ried in Goderich on Friday, Nov. 19, 1993. The groom is the son of Dorothea McArter and the bride is the daugh­ ter of Gloria McWhirter. To wit­ ness the occasion were the best of Blyth, John of Corunna, Chris of Samia and Anita Brigham of Petro­ lia. A memorial service was held on Monday, Feb. 21 at 1:30 p.m. from the Tasker Chapel of the Beattie- Falconer Funeral Homes, Blyth. Spring interment will be at Blyth Union Cemetery. LAURA ANNE STEWART Following a lengthy illness Laura Anne Stewart passed away on Feb. 12, 1994 at Bluewater Rest Home in Zurich. The eldest daughter of the late man Danny McKay and maid-of- honour Kim McWhirter along with the immediate family members. A small wedding reception was hosted by the bridal attendants and friends at the BMG Community Centre. The couple now resides in Brus­ sels. Edith (Snowden) and Edward Mole, Mrs. Stewart was born 85 years ago. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister and brother-in-law Vera and Alvin McDonald of RR2, Brussels. She was the loved aunt of Carol (Mrs. Eugene) Hirt, Lynne (Mrs. John) Davies, Gary, Wayne and Shayne Cassidy. Two step-children Dr. Ken Stewart and Marjory (Mrs. Alvin) Hammond are also left to mourn her passing. Many great nieces and nephews survive her as well. Mrs. Stewart was predeceased by her first husband Rev. H. V. Work­ man in 1959, her second husband, Rev. J. Ure Stewart in 1982, a step­ daughter Muriel (Mrs. Lloyd) Christner, a sister and brother-in- law Donalda (Donna) Cassidy in 1983 and Laurence Cassidy in 1973 and a brother John Mole in infancy. Rev. Bruce Cook of North Side United Church, Seaforth was the officiating clergy at the funeral ser­ vice which was held on Feb. 14 from the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Garry Cas­ sidy, Shayne Cassidy, John Davies, Robert (Bob) McMillan, George Ribey and Robert Mole. Spring interment will be at Ball's Cemetery, Hullett Twp., near Auburn. JOHN INGLIS John Inglis of Hanover passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1994 at Hanover and District Hospital. He was in his 93rd year. Mr. Inglis was the beloved hus­ band of the late Rath Cook, who predeceased him in 1989. He was the dear brother of James and Vera Inglis of Clifford and brother-in- law of Margaret Inglis of Walker­ ton. Several nieces and nephews survive him as well. Mr. Inglis rested at Betts Visita­ tion Centre, Gorrie from 2-4 and 7- 9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon. Spring interment will be at Gorrie Cemetery, Gorrie. In remembrance donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or a charity of one's choice would be appreciated. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 23,1994. PAGE 29. Maitland Presbyterial held in Wingham church President, Erlma Haldenby, welcomed everyone to the Maitland Presbyterial Annual meeting held in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wingham, on Monday, Jan. 24. She opened the meeting with a poem by Helen Steiner Rice, "Prayers can't be answered unless they are prayed." This was followed by prayer. Isabel Arbuckle welcomed everyone to Wingham. The morning session included reports from the treasurer, auditors and the various secretaries. Agnes Bregman brought greetings from Synodical and Council. The Area Educational Consul­ tant, Margaret Greig, showed excerpts from two different videos, The Matter of Interest and Many Faces of the Caribbean which are available to be used in monthly meetings. Rev. Vaudry, represent­ ing the Grey-Bruce Maitland Presbytery brought greetings and reminded everyone that pioneer missionaries were instrumental in building schools and hospital, thus ministering to both body and soul, but their main purpose was leading people to Jesus Christ. The afternoon session opened with a poem from the Glad Tidings "Forward in Faith" read by the president and prayer. The Molesworth afternoon society presented the devotions on the theme of love and friendship. Vi Smith read the scripture from John 15 and Marguerite Beimes gave the meditation reminding all that they are part of God's family and should love others as He loved. Alice Nicholson of Belgrave gave the offertory prayer. The group was then divided into two separate groups for workshops led by Rev. Peggy Kinsman on Planning for Worship and Margaret Greig Programme Planning. In her president's remarks, Erlma Haldenby commented on the results of a survey that had been conducted among church members. There is a need to educate churches more as to what the WMS does and the programs that are available. Margaret Greig commended members for their services in all areas of the church. She then installed the officers for the coming years. Shirley Hawthorne of Lucknow extended a warm invitation to everyone to attend” the Spring Rally in Lucknow in May. Mamie Wilkins of Ashfield thanked everyone who had contributed towards making the program so successful and Mary Wray of Ripley closed the meeting with prayer. There was a short executive meeting to finalize plans for the Hamilton-London Synodical meeting which the Maitland Presbyterial are hosting at Wingham in April.
