The Citizen, 1994-02-23, Page 3CR pastor baptizes infants On Sunday morning, Feb. 20 we welcomed Rev. Dave Tigchelar of Drayton to the pulpit and witnessed the baptisms of Kayla Rikki, infant daughter of Herman and Jessica Thalen of Brussels and Melissa Grace, infant daughter of Luke an Shirley Bouman of Londesboro. Rev. Tigchelar preached on "Covenant and Integrity" from II Timothy 4: 1-8. He explained that the covenant in reference to baptism was God-made. The covenant or promises of God are the foundation of faith and the neglect of faith, shown in the acceptance of such as teenage drinking, homosexuality, and marriage breakdowns, is the gradual erosion of faith. Integrity, he said, meant living Local scouts get top award Scout-Guide week is Feb. 20-27 this year. It is an important event for all members of the Scouting and Guiding organization, celebrating the birth date of its founder, Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, also known affectionately as "B.P." on Feb. 22, 1857. To start off the week's events all sections were represented at the 9 a.m. church service at the Blyth Catholic Church Feb. 20. Then on Wednesday, Feb. 23 there is to be a pot luck banquet at the Blyth arena for all the members of the Scouting Council looks at ways to spend By Bonnie Gropp Spending other people's money isn't always an easy thing to do. Blyth Council briefs Reeve reports on ROMA Having just returned from the ROMA convention Blyth Reeve Dave Lee reported some of the details to council at the Feb. 9 meeting. The main thrust of the conven tion he said, had been the topic of amalgamation, a system which would join municipalities, resulting in less government, less cost. It is seen, he said, as a way to survive and keep tax rates lower for the ratepayers. "The Ministry doesn't want to force it, but it is in a munic ipality's best interests to look at it as a possibility," he told council lors. Councillor Steve Sparling said, "Industry calls it rationalization. We are going to have to rationalize honestly and being complete. Therefore covenant integrity means growing in Christ as Paul in the Bible wrote from Prison, "I have fought the good fight and kept the faith." Also in Psalm 26, Rev. Tigchelar showed how David asks God to vindicate him as he has led a blameless life apparently forgetting his adultery with Bathsheba and how he had her husband killed. But covenant integrity doesn't mean to forget the past but to accept the beginning chapters of life and go on with new life, knowing and believing in the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ. In covenant integrity we are to live honestly, said Rev. Tigchelar. We are sinful but through the trust movement and their families. At the banquet Shawn Clark and Chris Knox will be presented with their Chief Scout Award, and the winning entry in the 1st Blyth badge contest will be announced. With the end of winter in sight all sections of Scouting are not quite finished with winter activities, but are also starting to plan for spring. Councillor Mason Bailey said he couldn’t see the point in taking the grant if council was going to have to "invent something to do so that someone could work for six months." Reeve Lee noted that he felt strongly that council meet with neighbouring municipalities to "see where we're going to be in a few years." Animal Control Officer Bob Trick had asked for verification in the bylaw with regards to whether the $30 fee for male or female dogs was based on per person or per household. The bylaw will read per household.*«« Following a question from Coun cillor Sparling about timelines for Continued on page 6 and faith of forgiveness in Jesus Christ we are holy and perfect before God. Lastly, Rev. Tigchelar explained, God is writing His story, not just in the Old Testament prophets or the New Testament apostles but in our lives today as shown in our commitments to our marriage, our children, our bodies, and to one another in church. The congregation responded by singing "My Jesus I Love Thee". In the afternoon service Rev. Tigchelar showed in his sermon "One is the Whole Number" how God can use the single person, whether single adult not yet married, single adult divorced, or single widowed person, in His kingdom work. the Regional Rally March 5 in Clinton. Reeve Dave Lee noted, however, that it was a benefit to a municipal ity if there is a real job to be done. The program, he said is aimed at construction and must be a project that the village had not planned on doing. Clerk Helen Grubb said that applications must be done for every project the village decides to under take as part of the program. Also, she said they "look favourably" on joint applications, whether through private industry or service clubs, which would lessen the tax dollars spent. Councillor Shirley Fyfe suggest ed that Gypsy Lane is in need of reconstruction work and said this might be worth considering for the grant. After further discussion council decided to give further considera tion to projects. Deadline for appli cations is September. Ms Grubb said that she can not do any paper work until the project is decided upon.
