The Citizen, 1994-02-16, Page 13THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 16,1994. PAGE 13. 1993 a good year for Missionary Church "If 1993 was a recession year, may the recession long continue!" With these remarks Pastor James Carne opened his report at the annual business meeting of the Huron Chapel Missionary Church in Auburn on Saturday, Jan. 29. He went on to say that it was the best year in every way that the church has ever known. Thirty-one came to know Christ in saving faith - 10 children, one teen and 20 adults, an increase of 121 per cent over last year. The pastor reported that a discipleship plan is in place to nurture these new Christians in the faith. Attendance also increased significantly. Fourteen new families began to attend Huron Chapel last year. This resulted in a 9.5 per cent increase in the average weekly attendance, to 80, at the Family Bible Hour, an increase of CWL hosts Fun Night The annual Catholic Women's League Fun Night for the Huron Perth Region was hosted by St. Michael's CWL Blyth this year and held at the Blyth Community Centre on Wednesday evening, Feb. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. The event was attended by over 300 women and started off with a delicious pot luck supper. Everyone was welcomed by St. Michael's President Anna Vander Hey den. Special guests attending from the London Diocesan Council were Helene Regier, past Diocesan president; Irene Kennedy, education convenor; Mary Paradine, Christian family life convenor and Theresa Larkin, regional representative, who welcomed everyone with a greeting. Entertainment was provided by several CW Leagues: Wingham Sacred Heart Celebration Choir sang some selections. St. Columban led a skit entitled, "7 Old Ladies" and Stratford St. Joseph's did a presentation "Ten CWL Women". Kinkora St. Patrick's also did a skit. Roberta Walker of Grand Bend Immaculate Heart of Mary sang a cappella "Ain't got Time to Die". Brussels St. Ambrose sponsored the Carry On Cloggers. Door prizes were donated by various other councils. A wonderful evening was enjoyed by all. Thank Yous were said to the following churches for their help in hosting this occasion: St. Augustine, St. Joseph Kingsbridge, Sacred Heart Wingham, St. Ambrose Brussels and St. Joseph Clinton. Mrs. Vander Hey den thanked everyone for attending and wished all a safe journey home to conclude the evening. Cadets serve Continued from page 3 and God. On the other hand the poor man had only God to turn to and was blessed by heaven. In the story members also read about the five brothers of the rich man. He feared they would also end up like him. The warning here is that repentance must be in this life. Mr. Sjaarda said we must listen to he Word of God now. Though life on earth is short, it determines eternity. Mr. Sjaarda closed the message with the question, "Is your life too busy to listen to the word of God?" The Cadets served the congrega tion coffee after the service, while the children attended Sunday School. 16 per cent to 109, in average attendance at the morning worship service and an increase of 11 per cent to 60 in the evening service. The weekly Kids' Klub and Youth attendance remained about the same at 25 and 20 respectively. The recession did not affect negatively the church's giving. Missions giving increased 25 per cent from $40,000 in 1993 to almost $51,000 last year. Overall giving increased by 13 per cent, from approximately $118,000 a year ago to almost $135,000. This included more than $20,000 given to the Building Fund. Six new members were received, bringing total membership to 45. It was agreed at the meeting that half time Youth Pastor Bob Lewis be hired for full time service when he completes his Bth. degree at the end of April. Pastor Came reported that more than 400 pastoral and almost 600 lay calls had been made. Seventy new families had been visited. Gary Palmer was elected to join Marlin Good, Mary Stoll and Roger Newcomb on the trustee board.
