Brussels students do speeches Up and away A member of the Blyth boys volleyball team gets a jump on the ball in this game at Saturday's tournament in Clinton. The boys did very well, but the championship was won by the Hullett team. By Malinda Exel and Amy Crawford Last Thursday the grade 8 band performed at the United Church. The band played six different pieces for the seniors. The songs included Anasazil, Westwind Overture, and Old McDonald's band. The band members were treated to cookies and juice afterwards. Free throw, a basketball competition was held Monday. Forty-five people from the ages 10 to 14 participated. Those who are going on to Clinton on Feb. 5 are Mandy Sellers, Ashley Gropp, Tanya Mawhinney, Jen Gowing, Cory Bragg, Kevin Mutter, Mark Kroll, Brian Oldfieid, and Elizabeth Ross. Good luck! This week the kindergarten class received a new laundry play center. Have fun! Also this week Mr. Wanless introduced the Science Invention Convention and the Science Fair. Our class will be incorporating the two together. We will be working on these projects throughout the next few weeks. Many of the classes have been preparing speeches. The speeches will be due at differing times through out the week in individual classes. The speeches will be presented in the gym on Feb. 24. Brussels Public School is always bustling with some exciting activity! Public speaking at Hullett PS By Amy Wilts and Tammy Vincent The Grade 5 students at Hullett Central are preparing themselves for public speaking which will take place the first week of February. For art class this week, the class enjoyed the wonderful natures of the newly fallen snow as they made some excellent snow sculptures in front of the school. Prizes were awarded and Richard Baechler's sculpture of a sports car won the individual contest. The group prize was won by Mandy Dunbar and Tiffany Reinhart as they carved out an alligator in the snow. Honourable mention goes to Steven Haak for making a polar bear and John Storey for making a frog. The students had fun painting their sculptures after they were made. TTzzs is the Tartn&fai There are many ways to save your money and a lot of ways to borrow, but? now there's a way to make sure your savings stay right in your own community - to provide a much-needed increase in the financial resources available to local farmers and farm-related businesses. Under the FarmPLUS Plan, participating credit unions and caisses populaires throughout Ontario will channel the money from local GIC deposits into a special pool which will be used exclusively for farm-related business loans and mortgages. It's that simple and it's an effective way to boost the local economy because everyone benefits. The Blyth team lost their first game 15-13 to Hullett Central but went on to win the tournament with two games to three. In every successive match the team put out their competitors within two games, despite extremely competi tive teams and close scores. The final showdown with the Seaforth team proved to be the most exciting match, and in the end, Seaforth handed its two-year title over to Blyth. The team which played was the same as the team which won the Si. Joseph's six-a-side tournament with the addition of Erin Roulston. The Blyth boys' volleyball team had a lot of dedication and effort. They came a long way and showed dramatic improvement in skills and teamwork over the season. The team did not have a very good day at the Regional Tourna ment. Their first two games were very well-played, but they fell into a slump as the day went on. There's always next year! Meeting set Continued from page 16 Vision.
